- 4. Malnutrition is widespreadand diarrhea - an easily preventable disease - kills one in five children under the age of five.

- 6. Mud cookies - madefrom dirt, vegetable shortening, and salt have become popular among Haitians desperate to stave off hunger. The cookies sell for around five cents each, compared to 60 cents for two cups of rice.
- 7. During a one-monthperiod in 2008 hurricanes Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike devastated the country. Over 1,000 people were killed and countless others were reported missing and injured.

- #36 This school in Bassin-Bleu, St. George Parish, needs classrooms finished on the upper level so that the kids can continue school. Currently, the highest grade is equivalent to our sophomores. For less than $5000 per classroom, the kids can continue their education!
