Are you going to Rome but “pizza” is the only Italian you have? You would like to learn the
language focusing on communication in everyday practical situations?
Come and join the Survival Italian course for beginners!
The course is designed as a survival language course with emphasis on developing the
necessary language skills to handle the most frequent situations encountered while staying
in Rome. It focuses on communication in everyday practical situations and aims at getting
students started in learning Italian.
In this course you will develop basic receptive skills, listening and reading, and basic
expressions to communicate in an Italian context. Upon completion of this course, you should
be able to:
- participate in a simple conversation on everyday topics;
- read and pick out important information from authentic texts (e.g. menus, signs,
schedules, etc.);
- use and understand essential vocabulary related to everyday life.

LESSONS CONTENT
Greetings, introductions (tell and ask for names and nationality), thank people. Meeting an
Italian: dos and don’ts.
Numbers from 0 to 1 billion, ask and tell for age, ask and tell the time, days of the week and
months. From $ to €.
Breakfast at the bar: order food and drinks, ask for the receipt and express likes/dislikes.
Different types of coffee: how to choose the right one.
Close your eyes and immerse yourself in the Italian atmosphere: it’s role play time! We will
take a seat in an Italian café, we will meet new friends while enjoying a (fake) cup of coffee.
Fruits & vegetables, common items in the supermarket, ask for information and directions
through the aisles. From oz to kg.
Enjoy your spring break!
Read the menu and order meals. Typical roman dishes and delicatessen.
How to order a proper pizza: dos and don’ts
The Italian topography: ask for locations, give directions, read a map. The transportation
