The document discusses reinventing energy futures through four visions over the next 10-15 years given climate change and rising energy demand. It references a quote about the changing relationship to energy and links to a website discussing four visions for reinventing energy futures. Research from Quora is provided on solar panel efficiency and size, with responses indicating smaller panels can be as efficient as larger ones and efficiency is generally 15-20% regardless of size, though economic efficiency favors larger panels. Related questions on Quora about the future of solar, why panels aren't more common, and fundamental efficiency limits are also included.
Green or Green-Wash? Lessons from building North America’s greenest hotelMaRS Discovery District
Speaker: Tom Rand, MaRS Advisor and Cleantech Practice Lead
Buildings are responsible for more than half of urban carbon emissions. Greening our buildings is clearly a cleantech priority - but what does "green" mean? Which technologies work, and which are window-dressing? What's possible by economic argument alone? This talk will take you through the technologies, decisions and problems of transforming a derelict building on our very own College Street into a modern, clean and green hotel. By "green" we mean an 80 per cent reduction of carbon emissions from business as usual. Planet Traveler will be "North America's Greenest Hotel." Planet Traveler: green, or green-washed?

Sustainable Solar Power-The Solution to Providing Energy for Low Cost HousingEES Africa (Pty) Ltd
South Africa faces an immense challenge to address the backlog in the construction and delivery
of quality, low cost housing. While there are a number of initiatives underway, there is said to be a
backlog of some 2.3 million houses. Integral to the construction of these houses is the provision of
energy for basic needs. Solar technology is a cost-effective solution for providing energy to low cost houses.

Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.
Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Question:
What is stopping smaller solar panels to be as efficient as larger solar
panels?
More specifically, why is it that we can have 40% efficient solar
panels on roofs, but not on smaller devices or cars. I am not looking to
maintain for price, just the concepts.

Everybody else is, correctly, talking about conversion efficiency.
There’s another aspect, which is economic efficiency. A smaller
panel means a smaller number of cells which have to be mounted,
framed and connected to whatever is consuming the power. The
wiring costs, per-cell, are greater with smaller panels than larger
ones, both in material and labor, up to a point. Similarly with
framing, mounting and shipping costs.

Chris Harget
The world record for triple-junction solar cells is about 44.4%, but
the cell uses exotic materials (gallium and indium are very
expensive), generally has light focused on it at 100x–1,000x
concentration and they make no financial sense for rooftops.
Nobody uses them that way.
Mass produced crystalline silicon solar cells generally convert
20%–25%. A couple gigawatts per year of panels of varying sizes are
deployed annually.
The size of the panel has little relation to the conversion efficiency.

There is no significant efficiency difference between large and
small solar panels. For the most part, they are all between 15%-20%
efficient, regardless of size.

What is the future of solar panels?
Joel Jean
Climate change is happening, we need lots of low-carbon
energy to stop it, solar is one of our only practical options, and
solar PV is growing faster than anyone ever imagined.
The main obstacle is cost: Global PV growth thus far has largely
been driven by federal and local subsidies. That said, PV is
already cost-competitive with fossil fuels in some places, and
system costs (and prices) continue to decline.
