Manu also researched keyboard constraints for internationalization and reached out to the community to discuss bringing laptops to children in India. His work was productive, creative, and helpful to the goal of providing laptops to every child.

Manu Gupta completed a successful internship at One Laptop per Child (OLPC). Over the summer, Manu worked on 6 projects including converting a key application to work with OLPC's software environment, developing a new painting application, and helping to plan a pilot project launching OLPC in Mumbai. Taday is Manu's last day as an intern at One Laptap per Child (OLPC). I wanted to.let you knaw what a pleasure it has been to.have Manu as part af the team this summer. He has been studiaus and imaginative, respectful and thaught-provaking, productive and creative-in shart, everything ane wauld hape far from a summer intern. Manu's principle task far the summer was to.part Evince, a PDF viewer, to.Sugar, the develapment environment far the Laptap. Manu waded through a web af interdependencies and, with judiciaus use af help when he needed it, managed to.achieve his gaal. I am happy to.say that we will be shipping the results af his effarts with the laptap and that children will use his reader-called xBaak-as ane af the primary mechanisms far using the Baak feature af the Laptap. In additian, Manu did a tharough investigatian af the canstraints that internatianalizatian will put an the keybaard we are designing far the laptap. His research praved to.be very useful. Perhaps mast significant were Manu's efforts to.reach aut to.the broader cammunity to.salicit ideas, feedback, and help in regard to.the prospects af eventually bringing ane laptap per child to.the children af India. It is clear that that gaal will anly be achieved through an effart much greater than we can muster unilaterally here at OLPC: it must be a cammunal effart, and the netwarking that Manu is so.adept at is vital to.aur callective effart.
