Finrod Felagund, an elf king, encounters a tribe of men led by Beor the Old in the mountains. Finrod befriends the men with his music and wisdom. The men call him Nom and his descendants Nomin. As friendship grows between elves and men, some men like Bereg and Amlach become discontent that they cannot possess immortality. Melkor seeks to sow discord between elves and men by sending orc raids. After her family is killed, Haleth leads her people, the Haladin, but she is too proud to accept refuge from the elf Caranthir. Felagund later helps the Haladin by getting them land in Brethil.

10. Such was the deceiving hand of Melkor in the relations of elves and Men. Melkor, angered that he could not incite hate between elves and Men, determined to seek harm to Men. So, he sent an orc-raid against Haladin which killed many men.

11. After, Haleth became the leader of Haladin since her brother and father were killed. But because of her bravery Caranthir offered her people refuge for their faithful service to defend the Eldar, however, she was too proud and so were her people. Thus was Caranthir

Felagund hearing of the pressing conditions of the travels of the tribe of Haleth procured from Thingol haven for the tribe of Haleth in Brethil under the condition that her tribe guard the Crossings of Tieglin. After a time, the elf-kings realized that Men and elves could not mingle and that Men needed dominion of their own.

13. Now Hador Lórindol, favored by Fingolfin, was given dominion over Dor-lómin. His lineage would father the kinds of Númenor.
