This document discusses different styles and techniques used in music videos, including conceptual/thematic, narrative, performance, illustrative, and interpretative styles. The conceptual/thematic style bases all elements like color schemes and costumes around a single concept or theme. The narrative style tells a story that may or may not relate to the lyrics. The performance style primarily features the artist performing the song. The illustrative style strongly connects the video's visuals to the song's lyrics. The interpretative style uses narrative to suggest deeper meaning beyond the literal lyrics.

2. CONCEPTUAL AND THEMATIC
In a concept based video, the video is made according to one concept
or theme. The colour schemes, costumes are all based on that one
concept.
For example in the video ‘ nighat and paras’ it revolves around one
concept. The colours and the imagery are all related to that one theme.
After watching the video you can see how the video is about male
dominance and violence. As you can see a woman dressed up as a
bride sitting with white eyes, there is also a woman singing whose nose
starts bleeding. Men are shown screaming, ripping their clothes and
digging graves etc.

3. NARRATIVE
In a narrative based video, the music video takes the audience on a
journey with them. It tells us a whole story that might or might not be
related to the lyrics. In media, narrative refers to the way a story is
told. It is a way of communication between the audience and the artist.
For example in the video, ‘confident’ by Demi Lovato. The video starts
with Demi in jail, the officer tells her to catch another prisoner and
then she will be given pardon. The whole music video revolves around
this and how demi lovato gets framed and the fights back etc.

4. PERFORMANCE
In a performance based video the artist or the band is shown
performing inside the video.
In the video ‘story of my life’ by one direction. The whole band is
constantly shown throughout the video singing.

5. ILLUSTRATIVE
In an illustrative music video the video has a strong connection with
the lyrics of the video. The lyrics are used as a basis for the visuals.
Example: stan by eminem

6. interpretative
An interpretative music video encourages the audience to speculate as
to the deeper meaning of the song by using a narrative which is not
lifted literally from the lyrics and the bond between the two will not be
obvious immediately.
