  1. Something as simple as writing can relieve stress, reduce anxiety, and help to ease feelings of depression. This guide will provide information regarding how can writing help in combating depression.
  2. Writing can help to relieve stress by combatting negative and intrusive thoughts. Writing about negative experiences can help you overcome them, and by putting your experience into perspective, you can concentrate on the positive as a result.
  3. Expressive journaling has been proven to help reduce depressive symptoms by bringing awareness and understanding to the illness. Writing about mental health struggles helps with understanding the patterns and train of thoughts that might lead to depression.
  4. Sometimes thoughts, feelings, and emotions overfill our minds, creating blocked emotions and bringing anxiety. Writing brings some consistency and structure to your thoughts and emotions.
  5. Unacknowledged emotions can lead to depression. However, writing can help you manage depression by training your emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence can be learned, and writing is one of the tools to exercise it.
  6. Writing just for 20 minutes a day can help your mental health. It also teaches you to be in the moment and acknowledge your feelings. This is called “mindfulness approach”.
  7. Repetitive negative thinking can feed into symptoms of depression and anxiety. Journaling provides an opportunity to acknowledge and challenge these thoughts, and reframe them in a more positive way.
