Education, especially to our young children, must be holistic and entertaining. Young children are at the stage whereby many different parts of their brain are developing. Thus, as educators, we must ensure that our children's brain are fully developed and giving a solid foundation as they grow up. Thus, education cannot be about Skills alone. Children must also develop knowledge, know the things around them, and give them sufficient knowledge about the world

Editor's Notes
The Wings of Hope Children’s charity Is a small but proactive charity supporting poor and orphaned children in India and Malawi by providing them with a free education.
Dr Sri Ram and Mrs Rajni Sriram founded the Wings of Hope Children’s Charity to ‘empower through education’, firmly believing that education provides the most solid route out of poverty and dependency. Their mission is to improve education for all underprivileged children regardless of their religious or political background
The Wings of Hope has three projects; one in India, one in Malawi and one in the UK. In the UK The Wings of Hope run the Wings of Hope Achievement Award or WOHAA which is what we are taking part in. The funds raised by students like us taking part in WOHAA go to support The Wings of Hope’s education projects in India and Malawi. Our projects are designed and created by us and it is completely up to us how we go about our fundraising. (perhaps add in what your aim is- ‘Our aim is to raise funds and awareness for the Wings of Hope….’)
In Malawi the Wings of Hope run an orphan support centre. According to the UN development index, Malawi is one of the least developed nations in the world. With over half of its population below the poverty line, Malawi’s precarious situation had been made worse by the HIV/AIDS crisis. The House of Hope is a large centre providing academic support, counselling and a feeding program to 600 children who have been orphaned by AIDS. Its aim is to empower orphaned and vulnerable children from any religious background, and equip them to lead an independent life.
In India, The Wings of Hope supports a school which provides free education to 360 children. The classes are both academic and value based, and designed to nurture physical fitness, mental well being and academic excellence in the students . The Wings of Hope strongly believes that by giving a holistic education to these children, they cannot only escape the poverty trap, but also become useful and valued members of society.
The Wings of Hope are now attempting their most ambitious challenge to date – to build a brand new wholly self-funded Wings of Hope School in Pondicherry, Southern India. The school will provide children in the neighbouring villages the education they need to escape poverty. In August 2008, the British High Commissioner to India Sir Richard Stagg inaugurated the site for the new school. To build this school The Wings of Hope need to raise £300,000, a target we hope to help reach with our WOHAA fundraising efforts this year
The Wings of Hope also has a third project in the UK called the Wings of Hope Achievement Award or WOHAA which is what we are currently taking part in. The award challenges students to develop their own innovative and creative fundraising project. It is open to all students in year groups 10-13. Students get into teams of up to 6 people and then design and carry out their own fundraising project. It aims to develop key transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership and time-management. It also offers students the opportunity to take part in skills workshops, work experience and even win an all expenses paid trip to India.
Here are some pictures of past WOHAA students’ fundraising. (perhaps add in something about your projects here?)
The Wings of Hope’s Corporate supporters run skills workshops with all participants in the scheme have the chance to get involved in. The supporters include Boots, Saatchi and Saatchi and Edelman and the workshops include CV writing skills, interview technique and tasters of the different industries. If our team make it to the semi finals we will have the chance to present to a prestigious panel at the House of Lords who will decide whether we win work experience placements with one of these companies. A work experience placement would look great on our CV’s and give us a better understanding of working in a large business.
Finally if we are chosen as the overall winning team we will have the chance to go, all expenses paid, to India to see first hand where our fundraising is making a difference! We will be able to meet the students, give lessons and experience Indian culture. This would be the trip of a lifetime and a fantastic opportunity for us to experience another culture and really appreciate how lucky we are in the UK to have such easy access to a good education.
With your support today we can make a real difference. Just £150 will support a child’s education in India for an entire year and just £120 will do the same in Malawi. This small amount can transform the future of a child, providing them with a chance of a better future. This is why we are very grateful that you are here tonight to support us and The Wings of Hope. We hope that you have a wonderful evening, we have a fantastic program of entertainment for you to enjoy and once again thank you for your support. Thank you and close (add in anything you would like to say)
