In this lesson on Biblical Worldview, we examine God's designed structure for this world and the directions to which sin has bent it. God's created design for sex (heterosexual marriage), tools (such as technology), and language (cursing) and the directions sin has twisted these are examined.
Kindness challenge, The spouse is unilaterally happy/dangerous/apostate, get...franktsao4
Recently, I heard some radio programs mentioning the challenge of kindness, or how to make spouses happy unilaterally, or how to promote family harmony in remarried families. These were originally based on goodwill as a start, but they all have one common thing. It is to lift a certain person or a certain group of people aloft and take their happiness, anger, sorrow, and joy as the highest goal. On the surface, it seems achievable, but if you look at it from the perspective of the Bible, this is almost impossible to reach. Because this world is not controlled by man, but God is the boss. So if man’s effort does not conform to God’s will, it will become a waste of energy.

This lesson covers the written testimony of Joseph Smith regarding the First Vision received in Palmyra, NY and covered in Joseph Smith-History Chapter 1. We'll talk about why a causal testimony of this prophetic witness is not enough. We need to follow Joseph Smith's example of relying on personal study and revelation to help us solidify our own testimony of the Restoration.

DB #2 RESPONSE #1
S Clayton
Race has been known to be a touchy subject for many. Discussing race seems to be synonymous with speaking while treading lightly. Pondering on my understanding of different races led me to think, first, about what I believe race to be. Race, to me, refers to the physical features of a person. The first human feature that comes to mind when reflecting on race is skin color. Other physical features are included, however, such as hair, and the shape of a person’s nose, lips, and face. Ultimately, race considers color, and facial features. Because of this, race can be thought of as part of one’s DNA. Differences in the way people look can be attributed to their genetic makeup and so, race is a part of this makeup. In my personal understanding of different races, identifying where a person is from can be easy because of the way they look.
After conducting research on this topic, I realized I was only partially correct in my thinking. A person’s physical attributes is a result of their genetic code, but not in the way that I thought. A Stanford study was conducted in 2002 [1], in which human diversity was examined. The focus of this study was 4,000 and how they were distributed across the globe, breaking the world into seven geographical regions. It was found that over 92% of alleles were found in two or more regions and almost half of the alleles studied were present in all seven major geographical regions [2]. In my previous idea of race, I identified the physical features with DNA and assumed they were one in the same. This is not the case as alleles vary greatly from genetic code. Alleles differ from genes in that, all humans have the same genes that code for hair, but the different alleles are why hair comes in all types of colors and textures. [2]
Elmer (2002) discusses the importance of understanding culture and strays from using the term, ‘race’. God created differences [3] and seems to prefer it. There are several cases in the Bible where the one that is chosen by God to fulfill a mission is the one person that is different. The book of Matthew speaks of a woman that used expensive perfume on the head of Jesus. [4] This action was characteristically different from what was expected. The Bible discusses race in terms of lineages from Jacob or other patriarchs. In First Peter, we see that people from various nations are called by God and in this, we find another example of the inherent differences we see in the world. The book of Ester, also, has very specific examples of race and how it can affect people’s behavior towards one another.
God’s word seems to side more with the scientific explanation of races, rather than my understanding of it. While Deuteronomy 32:8 explains the separation of people by God, verses in Psalms, Romans, Colossians, among other books, express the fact that race is simply a way for humans to categorize themselves needlessl.

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Slide 1: Title: Exploring the Mindfulness: Understanding Its Benefits
Slide 2: Introduction to Mindfulness
Mindfulness, defined as the conscious, non-judgmental observation of the present moment, has deep roots in Buddhist meditation practice but has gained significant popularity in the Western world in recent years. In today's society, filled with distractions and constant stimuli, mindfulness offers a valuable tool for regaining inner peace and reconnecting with our true selves. By cultivating mindfulness, we can develop a heightened awareness of our thoughts, feelings, and surroundings, leading to a greater sense of clarity and presence in our daily lives.
Slide 3: Benefits of Mindfulness for Mental Well-being
Practicing mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety levels, improving overall quality of life.
Mindfulness increases awareness of our emotions and teaches us to manage them better, leading to improved mood.
Regular mindfulness practice can improve our ability to concentrate and focus our attention on the present moment.
Slide 4: Benefits of Mindfulness for Physical Health
Research has shown that practicing mindfulness can contribute to lowering blood pressure, which is beneficial for heart health.
Regular meditation and mindfulness practice can strengthen the immune system, aiding the body in fighting infections.
Mindfulness may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity by reducing stress and improving overall lifestyle habits.
Slide 5: Impact of Mindfulness on Relationships
Mindfulness can help us better understand others and improve communication, leading to healthier relationships.
By focusing on the present moment and being fully attentive, mindfulness helps build stronger and more authentic connections with others.
Mindfulness teaches us how to be present for others in difficult times, leading to increased compassion and understanding.
Slide 6: Mindfulness Techniques and Practices
Focusing on the breath and mindful breathing can be a simple way to enter a state of mindfulness.
Body scan meditation involves focusing on different parts of the body, paying attention to any sensations and feelings.
Practicing mindful walking and eating involves consciously focusing on each step or bite, with full attention to sensory experiences.
Slide 7: Incorporating Mindfulness into Daily Life
You can practice mindfulness in everyday activities such as washing dishes or taking a walk in the park.
Adding mindfulness practice to daily routines can help increase awareness and presence.
Mindfulness helps us become more aware of our needs and better manage our time, leading to balance and harmony in life.
Slide 8: Summary: Embracing Mindfulness for Full Living
Mindfulness can bring numerous benefits for physical and mental health.
Regular mindfulness practice can help achieve a fuller and more satisfying life.
Mindfulness has the power to change our perspective and way of perceiving the world, leading to deeper se
2. Ephesians 5:8-11
■ Everything in the world is moving in one of two directions: it’s either bending back
towards its intended order or bending away from it.
■ One of the ways we “walk as children of light” is by “proving what is acceptable unto
the Lord.”
■ In any given situation, look for the things that are going in the right direction, the
things that please God.
■ V.11 means we should point out where the world’s going wrong.
■ AlWolters uses two labels to help Christians do this discerning of good and evil –
Structure and Direction.
■ Direction is the bending, whether good or bad.
■ Structure is the way things are supposed to be before they get bent, the way things
are supposed to be when they get bent back.
3. ■ Structure is good because God created everything good. Direction can be good or
bad.
■ Metal poles can get bent in any direction – just like sin can twist God’s good creation in
numerous ways.
■ Just like a metal pole that is cemented in place will always stay connected to the
ground, fallen humanity can bend creation only so far in sin.
■ You can only know a pole is bent if you have some idea of what it looked like when it
was straight. That is why the Creation-Fall-Redemption metanarrative of Scripture is
so important. It tells us that every created thing was originally good, and shows us
what good looks like (creation norms).
■ The Bible gives us the power to make moral judgments because the world has a
structure, and it’s a good one. ITimothy 4:4-5
■ Mere stuff can be good.
■ C. S. Lewis said, “There is no neutral ground in the universe: every square inch, every
split second is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan.”
4. ■ There is a spiritual battle going on in the world, and it’s going on FOR the world.
■ Because of this tug-of-war over creation, you cannot assume anything in creation is
amoral or neutral. Music, sports, cartoons, novels, and so on are all going somewhere
or even two somewheres.
■ Your basketball team could be increasing players’ skills while emphasizing the
importance of family and church over sports. Or it could become an idol that makes
players goad each other into being arrogant and obnoxious.
■ How do the labels “structure” and “direction” help us discern the good and evil in real
life situations?
■ Let’s look at the fallen direction of a topic that most churches avoid, but shouldn’t:
sex. (And no, there won’t be anything weird. We’re looking at how sin has twisted it.)
5. The situation we’re in….
■ When you look at the moral landscape ofWestern society, what do you see?
■ America has degraded into a hook-up culture with no relationship or commitment in
place of dating and courting.
■ According to the world, sex is just a bodily function, not a moral issue at all. The only
moral issue is ensuring consent beforehand.
■ The world has everything backwards when it comes to sex. I Peter 4:3-4
■ So what is structural about sex, and how is it being bent in a fallen direction?
■ God created sex, so sex is good when done the way it was intended: within the bonds
of an exclusive, one-on-one, heterosexual marriage.
■ Exodus 20:14
■ I Corinthians 7:1-6
6. ■ Paul clearly states that sex has incredible spiritual power for husband and wife in that
it unites them on a deep level.
■ Genesis 2:24
■ In fact, the entire book of Song of Solomon celebrates this aspect of marriage.
■ This purpose doesn’t go away in the hookup culture around us; it’s still there.
■ Neither gender can escape the emotions that always arise afterward.
■ Solomon asked this question in Proverbs 6:27.
■ Remember, both man and woman are created in the image of God, and using each
other in this way is to insult your Maker and violating the picture of Christ’s
relationship with the church in Ephesians 5:31-32.
■ Sex gets twisted in a lot of other ways, but we’re going to leave that for you to discuss
with your parents. Luke 17:1-2, Ephesians 5:12
7. Sin is a caricature.
■ It is a distorted image of the way things are supposed to be, but the image is still
recognizable.
■ Broken families are still families. Cussing is still language. Sinners are still people.
■ Materialism is the tendency to treat material possessions and physical comfort as
more important or desirable than spiritual values; a way of life based on material
interests.
■ One attorney trying to get his client acquitted referred to this as “affluenza.”
■ “He who dies with the most toys, wins.”
■ Mathew 6:19-20
■ Matter is intrinsically good because God created it. God put us into a material world,
and you’re going to have to gather some of those materials if you hope to do God’s
will.
8. TwistedTechnology
■ Technology is a broad term for the tools humans develop to aid them in the work of
dominion.
■ God structured the world to require tools. When technology gets bent, we become
the tools of our tools.
■ Our tools become our gods, and we become their devoted servants.
■ For example,TV assumes that people need constant entertainment and make nonstop
diversion possible. It also makes it possible to tell certain rich stories that don’t fit well
in books or movies.
■ The average child spends more time with theTV by age six than they will with their
dad in their lifetime.
9. Corrupted Communication
■ All of the many languages were developed at Babel in Genesis 11. Animals can
communicate but do not have language.
■ Words exist for the love of God and neighbor, ,and they have great power to
accomplish these purposes.
■ Words can praise God, sing to God, describe God, and pray to God. They can edify,
encourage, and instruct people. Words don’t just transmit information, they change
the world.
■ The internet has made it possible to be slow to hear and quick to speak on a global
scale. People talk too much and say too little of value.
■ Ecclesiastes 5:2
■ James 1:19
10. ■ Why are cuss words bad?
■ Bad words are bad, generally speaking, because they take some of the most personal
and sacred things in the universe and twist them in the wrong direction, out of the
structures they belong to.
■ Damnation is one of the most terrible realities we know, and the love and authority of
Jesus Christ is the most glorious reality we know. Using these as curse words throw
these realities in the dirt.
■ It is similar for words that describe sexual and excretory functions.
■ James 3:8
■ Your goal in language isn’t merely negative – to avoid talking too much or saying the
wrong thing. It should be positive using the right words to bless God and your
neighbor.
■ The existence of corrupt politicians doesn’t eliminate the goodness of government.
The existence of hatred doesn’t eliminate the goodness of emotion.
