My name is kunika , I am a student at S.S Jain Subodh management institute , as a management student I've always
have been interested in retail management ,and wanted to know how exactly things work in a departmental stores .
With this college internship program I gotten the opportunity to work as a intern in this departmental store name as "
Singodia Art Gallery " . I worked there as a General manager for almost 3 months.
Internships are a great way to work closely with experienced professionals in your area even while gaining knowledge,
skills, and experience relevant to your career aspirations. Internships can provide you with new contacts, mentors, and
recommendations if they are handled properly.
It allows you to apply what you have been learning, test your theories, and refine your professional and social skills in a
real-world setting.

India
As per Kearney Research, India’s retail industry is projected to grow at 9% over 2019-2030,
from US$ 779 billion in 2019 to US$ 1,407 billion by 2026 and more than US$ 1.8 trillion
by 2030. Revenue of India’s offline retailers, also known as brick and mortar (B&M)
retailers, is expected to increase by Rs. 10,000-12,000 crore (US$ 1.39-2.77 billion) in
FY20. India’s direct selling industry is expected to be valued at US$ 2.14 billion by the end
of 2021. E-Retail has been a boon during the pandemic and according to a report by Bain &
Company in association with Flipkart ‘How India Shops Online 2021’ the e-retail market is
expected to grow to US$ 120-140 billion by FY26, increasing at approximately 25-30% p.a.
over the next 5 years. Despite unprecedented challenges, the India consumption story is
still robust. Driven by affluence, accessibility, awareness and attitude, household
consumption stood at Rs. 130–140 trillion (US$ 1.63-1.75 trillion) in 2021.
India has the third-highest number of e-retail shoppers (only behind China, the US). The
new-age logistics players are expected to deliver 2.5 billion Direct-to-Consumer (D2C)
shipments by 2030. Online used car transaction penetration is expected to grow by 9x in
the next 10 years.

items, cosmetics, furniture, groceries etc.
These products are available under one roof. Consumers do not have to walk on the roads in search of these items.
They can shop very conveniently in any season in these departmental stores. Besides, they are very economical for both
sellers and buyers. They also give discounts on bulk purchase. These departmental stores provide service to customers
such as free home delivery, online booking of orders, sales service for various gadgets etc.
So, department stores are becoming popular in India.

Conclusion
On the whole, this internship was a useful experience. I have gained
new knowledge, skills . I achieved several of my learning goals
I got insight into professional practice. I learned the different facets of
working within an Retail Industry .
The internship was also good to find out what my strengths and weaknesses
are. This helped me to define what skills and knowledge I have to improve in
the coming time.
At last this internship has given me new insights and motivation to pursue a career in run
out my own departmental store in future. To prepare myself for my future career I can
improve several things. Although, there are some areas that I have to work upon on , like I
have to improve communication skills so that I am able to present and express myself
more confidently.in front of anyone.
