Pricing
La Chapelle is a former Winery which was re-built/renovated
in 2008, and the Chai forms the North-Western corner of the
building – easy to keep the wine cool in the warm climate of
Haute Saintonge.
The Chai has been renovated and equipped to a high standard
in 2014 and enjoys exclusive use of the Chai garden, Pool,
Terrace, adjoining Small Barn.

1) Changeover day – Saturday.
2) Non-refundable deposit of £200 is payable on booking to secure your reservation.
3) Balance payable 8 weeks prior to arrival date.
4) A damage deposit cheque of £200 is also required with the final payment, which will be
returned on completion of your stay.

Where’s the Wine?
Centrally placed between Cognac and Bordeaux, The Chai is
the ideal base for all lovers of Fine Wines, Cognacs, and
Pineaus (and those who just want to enjoy a glass or two
amongst the vines).
NEXTBACK
Leoville: In the centre of the Pineau production area , there are many
opportunities for “degustation” in the immediate vicinity. My favourite is 5 mins
from La Chapelle and also makes excellent Pays Charentais wines.
Archiac: A good place to start discovering French wines (and Foods) is the
“Maison de la Vigne et des Saveurs”.
Wine Tours: Many of the great Chateaux encourage visitors, usually by prior
arrangement and some also run regular guided tours and tastings (e.g. Smith
Haut Lafitte just to the south of Bordeaux).
Cognac: 40 mins drive to the centre. Many of the famous distilleries run guided
tours (most can be booked in advance). We like Camus and Remy Martin.
Borg and Blaye: Lots of small Wineries between The Chai and the Estuary.
The Medoc: Centre for the “Cabernet-types”. A ferry runs between Blaye (30 mins drive) and
Lamarque 4 times per day during the summer (expensive but an interesting trip). The Medoc can
also be reached by road via Bordeaux.
Pauillac: Great location, great Chateaux, great Wines.
Bordeaux: 1 hour drive to city centre. Historic home to the Bordeaux wine industry.
St Emilion: Centre for the “Merlot-types” & Cotes de Bordeaux as well as many famous “Houses”.

La Chapelle is centrally placed with excellent road links via the
A10 (Route de Aquitaine) and N10 giving access to Beaches,
Zoo, Golf, Fishing, Sailing, Water-skiing, Historic Sites and
other sports and leisure activities.

La Chapelle: Leisure Pool, Croquet, Table Football, Dart Board, Football Net
and Golf Net on site.
Leoville: 10 mins walk to Tennis, Boules, Playground, and Bar.
Les Antilles de Jonzac: 10 mins drive to Water Park, “Relaxology Centre”,
Gym and Beauty Area. Activity Centre with Archery, Boating, and other
activities during the Summer.
Jonzac: 10 minutes drive to “Casino de la Barrier” and “Les Thermes”. Jonzac
is also famous for it’s frequent Jazz Festivals.
Montendre: 15 minutes drive to Inland Lake with Sandy Beach, Swimming,
Boating, Canoeing, and Fishing. There is also a pretty (but short) Golf Course
with excellent Driving Range. Longer courses at Saintes and Angouleme.
Vitrezay and the Estuary: 25 mins drive to Nature Park (good Restaurant and Bar Brasserie) and
Gironde River Cruises.
Meschers: 35 mins drive to typical French Sea-side Resort.
Angouleme: 45 minutes to Historic French “Grande Ville” (well worth a visit). Great inland Beach.

Aubeterre-sur-Dronne: 45 minutes drive to one of France’s prettiest Medieval villages.

Further Afield
Some examples of favourite places, all accessible in under 2
hours from La Chapelle and all worth the trip.
NEXTBACK
La Rochelle: 1.5 hrs drive to this ancient port.
Good shopping, restaurants, architecture,
aquarium, and of course boat trips to TV’s “Fort
Boyard”.
La Vallee des Singes: 1 hr 40 mins , over 400
“singes” presented in a unique format. Famous for
it’s Bonobos, Gorillas, and the “open” enclosures
that allow many of the animals to interact freely
with Visitors (N.B. Obviously not the Gorillas!!!).
Take a picnic.
Futuroscope: 1 hr 55 mins, European “Star Attraction” 2014. Arrive early, leave late, remember to
take the kids.
La Palmyre: 1 hr 15 mins to simply the best Zoo I have ever visited. Internationally acclaimed
breeding programme. Take a camera, several enclosures are “photographer friendly”.
Royan/La Tremblade: 1 hr 15 mins, One of the best Seaside Resorts anywhere. The “Cote
Sauvage” untamed. Chatelaillon-Plage (further up the coast) also worth a visit.

Planes – Direct from the UK to Bordeaux (approx. 1 hour from Leoville), La Rochelle (1 hour 30
minutes), Bergerac (2 hours) or Limoges (2 hours). Also regular interconnecting flights from Paris
for Intercontinental travellers.
Trains – TGV (Train Grand Vitesse) direct from Paris to Angouleme (30 minutes from Leoville) or
Bordeaux (1 hour from Leoville). Local services to Jonzac (approx. 15 mins from Leoville).
Car Ferries – Caen (approx. 5 hours from Leoville), La Havre (5.5 hours), or Calais (8 hours).
