STOP SUPERBUGS WITH ANTIBIOTIC STEWARDSHIP
1. STOP SUPERBUGS WITH ANTIBIOTIC STEWARDSHIP
Dr.T.V.Rao MD
Antibiotics have transformed the practice of medicine, making once lethal infections
readily treatable and making other medical advances, like cancer chemotherapy and organ
transplants, possible. The scientific community today talks about Antibiotic Resistance more
than any matters on Medical Advances, the World of Medicine is advancing more than we
imagine, and it is certain every patient admitted in hospital will come in contact with Drug
resistant superbugs Antibiotic-resistant infections strike at least two million people in the
United States each year, killing at least 23,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC). Now modeling experiments show that if public health authorities and
healthcare facilities in a given region work together they could reduce the number of
carbapenam resistant bacteria, it is just almost we are reaching to a End stage of Antibiotic
use, Indian Medical curriculum and syllabus teaches more of uses of Antibiotics rather than
consequences of Antibiotic use, misuse and consequences, We have more questions to
answer than blaming many other factors which are not under our control, as "No one facility
can stop this because the outbreak moves across facilities around a community, as the
patients are discharged faster than in the past in view of increasing costs of hospitalization
and other medical services When one facility is preventing infections but a second isn't,
transferring patients can reinfect the facility that was at first clear of infections. today we face
the Community associated infections, . A growing body of evidence demonstrates that
hospital based programs dedicated to improving antibiotic use, commonly referred to as
“Antibiotic Stewardship Programs (ASPs)”, can both optimize the treatment of infections and
reduce adverse events associated with antibiotic use. Lack of coordination puts patients at
higher risk, I wish antibiotic resistance more of work related to community Medicine, than
caring facilities, Our housemen and students posted for nearly 60 days of house man ship in
social Healthcare facilities must work together and with public health authorities to implement
shared infection-control measures to prevent the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and
MRSA and ESBL strains and newly emerging carbapenam resistance in intensive care units
.To implement a coordinated approach…states need to be able to identify…all the healthcare
facilities in their area and know how they're connected with regard to how they share patients.
They need additional staff to improve these connections and to coordinate the coordination
that needs to happen between the healthcare facilities in their area, “They need to develop a
communication plan so information can be smoothly and seamlessly shared between these
facilities. All the Medical institutes should develop the policies to propagate Antibiotic
stewardship through education in our Medical colleges, and improve the social structure to
reduce the Infection spreading in society.
Through use of Education Antibiotic stewardship programs should provide regular updates on
antibiotic prescribing, antibiotic resistance, and infectious disease management that address
both national and local issues. Sharing facility-specific information on antibiotic use is a tool to
motivate improved prescribing, particularly if wide variations in the patterns of use exist
among similar patient care locations. There are many options for providing education on
antibiotic use such as didactic presentations, which can be done in formal and informal
settings, messaging through posters and flyers and newsletters or electronic communication
to staff groups. It is simpler that the Medical colleges and Institutes, can just educate the
society both literate and illiterate public on consequences of irrelevant and irregular use of
Antibiotics, Reviewing de-identified cases with providers where changes in antibiotic therapy
could have been made is another useful approach. A variety of web-based educational
resources are available that can help facilities develop education content. Education has been
found to be most effective when paired with corresponding interventions and measurement of
outcomes. Never forget reducing the misuse of Antibiotic is great priority we as Medical
teachers are concerned
I wish many Medicine and, Pharmacology Microbiology teachers to impress on our Students
what is important today TO STOP SUPER BUGS, is not a optimal prescription? but optimal
2. rationalism of prescription of Antibiotics
HOPE WE ALL CAN DO SOMETHING FOR OUR SURVIVAL WITH IMPENDING DRUG
