2. May 19th was the 100th anniversary , to the day, of Parks Canada . To mark the occasion, Parks Canada business units across the country, under the leadership of their centennial champions, threw birthday parties , taking photos to share with their colleagues. 23. Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site On May 19, 2011, staff from the TSW celebrated Parks Canada’s 100 th birthday – in Waterway style! Eighteen enthusiastic staff commuted to work – by canoe! The event was part of Shifting Gears, an annual month-long commuter challenge for people who work in Peterborough, Ontario. Members of the Parks Canada flotilla enjoyed their morning paddle across Little Lake, as well as the opportunity to see some of the Waterway landmarks, including Lock 20 (Ashburnham) from a new perspective.
