Astana is the current capital of Kazakhstan, located in the north-central part of the country. It was formerly known as Akmolinsk and Tselinograd before being designated the capital in 1997. Since becoming the capital, Astana has grown dramatically and now serves as the center of government and business in Kazakhstan, with all government organizations and over 100 foreign businesses and joint ventures located there. The city blends modern architecture with oriental influences and is becoming a major economic hub.
