Having hosted 530 people from over 50 countries in his home, Begzsuren is a local with global stories spanning from his humble home.
Mongolian librarians still paying the lost books price. how we change.Begzsuren Jamsranjav
Mongolian librarians, especially circulation librarians, are responsible for paying for lost books found during inventory. In 2009, 10 circulation librarians paid 700,000 tugriks for lost books. The Ulaanbaatar Public Library shifted to open stacks in 2008, putting more responsibility on circulation librarians for book losses. Now the 2012 inventory is being calculated, and circulation librarians may have to pay more for lost books. The presenter is looking for examples from other countries dealing with this issue and wants international experts to provide guidance on Mongolian library policies and a potential first library law.
The document discusses the use of information technologies at the Ulaanbaatar Public Library in Mongolia. It describes the library software used, including a transition from Alice to the open source Koha system. It also outlines the library's hardware, including 79 computers for staff and patrons. The document details how IT is used for circulation, communication, programs, and services for blind users, including a DAISY studio for producing digital talking books. The library aims to expand IT services and internet access to its branches.
