1. STAD is a cooperative learning strategy where students work in small diverse groups to help each other master assignments but are rewarded based on the overall performance of their group. 2. Groups have 4-5 students of different achievement levels and students help each other learn the material through discussions, practice quizzes and tutoring each other. 3. At the end of each learning unit, tests are given and scores are used to determine group rewards based on overall improvement and each group's highest and lowest scoring members.
