Pregnancy-induced hypertension is a condition characterized by new onset of high blood pressure during pregnancy or postpartum that can lead to serious complications for both mother and baby if not properly managed. Symptoms may include headaches, visual disturbances, upper abdominal pain, and edema. Treatment focuses on controlling the mother's blood pressure and preventing seizures through bed rest, medication, and monitoring for preeclampsia or eclampsia which may require early delivery of the baby.
