Spoons have been used as a musical instrument in Russia since 1259 and are considered a national folk instrument. Musicians developed three main techniques for playing spoons: the "fire tongs" style, the "salad serving" style, and the "castanet" style. Nowadays, spoons are used worldwide to perform various styles of folk music, such as American, British, Turkish, and Greek music. Spoons produce sound by hitting one spoon against another, with harder hits creating louder sounds.

2. Unusual instrument
Spoons isn’t an ordinary choice, speaking
about Russian musical instruments.
Musicians still use them. Spoons have been
used as a musical instrument since 1259

Although spoons are a Russian national pair instrument, people
all over the world collected knowledge about them,
and,eventually, created 3 different techniques, such as the “fire
tongs” style, the ”salad serving” style and the “castanet” style.

4. Usefulness
Nowadays people all over the world use spoons to play them
in different types of concerts. For example, they are used for
the performance of American,British,Turkish and Greek folk
music. Also, some of the modern groups such as UB40 and
Jeff Richardson use spoons at their concerts.

5. The Sound of spoons
Spoons aren’t so special in terms of sound. They are
played by hitting one on the other. The harder the
hitting the louder the sound of the spoons will be.
