This weekend multi-event charity gathering will be held April 11-13th of 2008 on the Campus of UCLA, with
the Concert to End Genocide being held at Pauley Pavilion on April 12th 2008. This date is significant in that
it commemorates many important holocaust related anniversaries. We feel this is especially important
during the 60th Anniversary of Raphael Lemkins 1948 Genocide Convention where the world first
proclaimed its opposition to genocide and ethnic cleansing at the International Level. Thus, the weekend
corresponds with Holocaust Remembrance Day (April 13th), and the Concert itself corresponds to the
anniversary of the 1951 Israeli parliament’s proclamation of‘Yom Hashoah U’Mered HaGetaot’(Holocaust
and Ghetto Revolt Remembrance Day) which was later simplified to Yom Hashoah.
This Weekend of Concerts, Events and Celebrations is dedicated to stopping the insanity of ongoing
genocide while raising awareness about genocide: past, present, and future. The weekend consists of The
Concert To End Genocide, A Gala Welcome Dinner and Auction, a VIP After Party and Symposium Series
dedicated to finding solutions to solving issues related to Genocide and Human Rights Abuses.

Introduction and interview
A Weekend Dedicated to Fighting Genocide
The Coalition to End Genocide is comprised of more than 25 UCLA student groups and 15
community partners united to end genocide in Darfur and beyond.
On Saturday, April 12, 2008, several student and community organizations will come
together to make history on the campus of UCLA with The Concert to End Genocide. This
significant event will consist of a multi-media showcase of committed musicians as well as
relevant genocide themed content. The purpose will be to inspire and educate the over
10,000 students, faculty and local community members expected to attend. We will also be
raising funds in order to aid a number of the displaced refugees from Darfur by purchasing a
mobile medical clinic to service them. In order to accomplish our goal, innovative tools, such
as the Darfur is Dying Videogame, will be featured. We will also bring musical performers,
survivor testimonials, celebrity guests and relevant authors together to focus on illustrating
the urgent need for change. An academic style symposium will be held concurrently
throughout the weekend to further explore the issue of Genocide and possible solutions.
On April 10, 2007, the first annual Mighty Mic Human Rights Awareness Concert united
education with entertainment, music with activism, and UCLA students with each other in
a common cause. Originating from the belief of several UCLA students that students can
exert a real, tangible influence on the world they live in, Mighty Mic was a joint effort of over
20 student organizations collaborating to provoke thought, promote education, inspire
dialogue, and advocate action with regards to both local and international humanitarian
issues. Last April, Mighty Mic highlighted the issues of global access to healthcare and
Afghan women’s rights as well as donated all proceeds of the concert to two organizations at
the forefront of addressing these matters, Doctors
Without Borders (MSF) and the Revolutionary
Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA).
This year, Mighty Mic and the rest of The Coalition
to End Genocide looks forward to a monumental
weekend of education, campus unity, performance,
entertainment, energy, and an ever-growing
commitment to fighting genocide.

Overview: 1st
Annual Mighty Mic Human Rights Awareness Concert
The very first annual Mighty Mic Human Rights Awareness Concert was held last year, and
it turned out to be a huge success. We successfully raised over $15,000 for Doctors Without
Borders and the Afghan Women’s mission. We sold out Ackerman Grand Ballroom and
accomplished our goal of fusing educational segments with artist performances in an effort
to raise awareness on humanitarian issues. As a result, this year we are taking the concert to a
higher level.
The concentration of this year’s concert will be genocide, with an emphasis on the current
genocide in Darfur. The proceeds raised from the concert will be used to send a mobile 747
health clinic to provide urgent medical assistance to a refugee camp in Chad through our
partners U.S. Doctors for Africa. In 2006 U.S. Doctors for Africa announced the Ghana Mobile
Clinic Project--the deployment of its first mobile clinic to Africa. The Ghana Mobile clinic was
the first clinic of an anticipated 200 mobile clinics USDFA has committed to deploy by 2015 as
part of its Mobile Clinic Initiative, a commitment made by USDFA at the 2006 Clinton Global
USDFA aims to save millions of lives by providing
basic health care and education that is currently
unavailable in rural Africa.

Who They Are
US Doctors for Africa is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization humanitarian organization
committed to increasing access to medical care for diseases and conditions affecting
the people of Africa. By mobilizing and distributing medical manpower, supplies, and
equipment to medical institutions throughout the continent of Africa, they are able to
provide medical and preventative healthcare and capacity-building to regions of Africa
without available medical services
US Doctors for Africa relies on the energy, talent, compassion and commitment of its
volunteers and partner organizations. US Doctors for Africa creates strong, strategic
partnerships with NGOs, medical institutions, and governments operating in African
nations in order to effectively and efficiently mobilize and deliver needed resources to
areas in which they operate.
They also create strong, tactical partnerships with US medical institutions and
pharmaceutical companies in order to receive donations of medical supplies and
equipment, and distribute them to clinics, hospitals, and other medical institutions in
Africa where there is a great need for resources.
They deliver multi-disciplinary teams of healthcare professionals and equipment to
resource-poor regions in Africa with a mission to provide primary care, strategic planning,
education, training, and capacity-building. They seek first to aid the people of Africa and
then to empower them to respond to the health crisis they face.

The Mighty Mic! Concert to End Genocide Coalition is proud this year to benefit US

revolutionary feat - the first time a private sector humanitarian project consisting of a 747

We have been in serious negotiations with most speakers/artists for some time, and have
received incredibly reduced rates, often less than 50 – 80% of their usual student rate. Many
of the speakers scheduled to attend the concert are willing to come from across the country,
and receive little more than travel expenses, in order to educate and empower our student
body and raise community awareness. Without sufficient funds to cover these minimal
expenses, however, the program cannot succeed.

about our audience
With more than 38,000 students, UCLA is California’s largest university. Pulling from different
disciplines from the arts to the humanities to medicine, the campus is one of the largest
and most diverse. We are publicizing to every department on campus and a wide range of
student groups. This is the first social activism concert to be held at UCLA in over 15 years,
with UCLA representing their commitment as the epicenter of the California Divestment
movement, this was a cause that they could get behind.
We also hope to attract a diverse population from the greater Los Angeles community as
well. Our community partners will be publicizing to those working in and interested in
music, non-profit organizations, public sector employees.
At The Concert to End Genocide, the audience will receive far more than just an evening of
entertainment. The concert will allow students to learn more about issues of international
human rights and social justice, from intervention and security issues to health care and
refugee rights. The event will help spark discussion about these issues and broaden their
learning experiences outside of the classroom. Attendees will receive information about how
to work for positive and tangible change. Students and community members may attend
the concert for different reasons, whether it be because of their interest in the issues or
because of their favorite band, but it is our goal that they all leave united in their interest in
promoting justice and human rights.

This concert and symposium series at UCLA represents the culmination of decades of
combined work on the part of hundreds of committed activists, academics, students and
artists. The situation in Darfur and in the larger Great Lakes Region surrounding Sudan has
at recent begun to break down further, even previously stable countries such as Kenya are
currently experiencing violence. Without immediate action at the international level to
address urgent security and health related concerns, this conflict is sure to spread thereby
infecting the entire area with violence. Please consider supporting this effort and help
arrest the killings. At present over 500,000 innocent victims have been murdered as part of
the on-going genocidal violence, another 2 million have been displaced as a result of the
conflict. If we don’t act now, the future will hold us accountable for our inaction. Please help
make this THE CONCERT TO END GENOCIDE in 2008, the 60th
Anniversary of Raphael Lemkin’s
