Knowledge management (KM) refers to capturing, developing, sharing, and effectively using organizational knowledge. KM is a multi-disciplinary approach to achieving organizational objectives by leveraging knowledge. It involves creating, disseminating and utilizing knowledge through various processes. Key components of KM include groupware, workflow, content management, enterprise portals, eLearning, and expertise location databases. Benefits of implementing KM include enabling faster decision making, reusing knowledge, avoiding redundant work, and leveraging existing expertise. While KM has been established since 1991, it continues to be an important concept for organizations to innovate through knowledge sharing.
