Spain has the 10th largest music market in the world but it has declined significantly in recent years. From 2005-2009, sales dropped 43% in Spain compared to a 23% decline across Europe. The top 4 labels control 91% of the Spanish market. Online piracy is a major problem with 96% of music acquired online in Spain being pirated. In response, the government passed the Sinde Law aimed at regulating copyright on the internet but it has not yet taken effect. Live music is doing relatively better with revenues of $367 million in 2009 compared to $246 million for recorded music. The future of the Spanish music industry remains uncertain as physical sales continue declining and investment lags due to piracy and economic issues
