Is Joe’ directed in 1998 in Scotland.
• Ken Loach shows his passion for social realism in a short documentary where he speaks
about his high school education and his experience at a grammar school and how he felt that
the grammar school system is a ‘deeply unfair system’ and how he was lucky to of been
given that opportunity.
3. Shane Meadows is a self-made, British Film maker from the midlands in the UK.
After dropping out f school at the prime age of 16, he turned his attention to
the film industry. Although he started off with simplistic movies, his talent was
spotted at an early stage in his career and has now progressed onwards in
producing films such as the trilogy ‘This Is England’ which is funded and
featured on Channel 4.
4. • Mike Leigh is a British social realism director and producer, who has been awarded an OBE
as a sign of recognition of his excellent work within the film industry.
• Moreover, he is prominent for producing the social realism movie ‘Secrets and Lies’ in 1996
which promotes the ethnic differences between races in working-class Britian.
• I found this Movie beneficial, as the plot showed me how using topic areas such as class
and ethnicity can be interlinked.
5. Andres Arnold, OBE, is an award winning female actress and movie produce of
the 21st century. One of her most eminent movies she produced was ‘Fish Tank’
in 2009 which follows the life of an unstable working-class teenage girl. I found
this film very beneficial, as my A2 production film will also have a similar theme.
