This document summarizes notes from an ASC Board meeting on May 28, 2013. It discusses an engineering program funded by KIA being implemented in K-8 classrooms, including using a JetToy Challenge in 8th grade science units. It also mentions content planning days scheduled for teachers and revising common unit assessments and formative assessments. The document provides details on developing constructed response items and re-evaluating an online assessment system. It closes by discussing curriculum alignment and revising unit pages and benchmark testing schedules.
Want to know how to conduct literary research? Here's where to start! This show covers databases, fields, and even the supercharged search secrets of truncation, wildcards, and Boolean operators.
Boolean Logic: how to talk to search engines in their own languageBoxford Library
You think in words. The search engine thinks in math. How can you communicate? BOOLEAN! Use Boolean logic to REALLY tell a search engine what you want to know! This presentation will show you how to use AND, OR, and AND and OR in combination.

Presentation Notes
Welcome to the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium’s Item and Task Development Training Module. This module will introduce educators to the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium’s training series and procedures for developing items and performance tasks for its next generation assessment system.
Purpose
• Introduction to Smarter Balanced
Assessment Consortium
• Learn about:
– Common Core State Standards
– Item and content specifications
– Item and task types
• Introduction to other learning modules
Presenter
Presentation Notes
In this module, educators will become familiar with several terms and concepts that are commonly used when discussing the development of items and performance tasks. {+} Educators will be introduced to the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, {+} and learn more about the Common Core State Standards, item and content specifications, and the various item and task types that will be developed for the Smarter Balanced assessment system. {+} Educators will also be introduced to the other modules that are available to help them prepare to develop and review items and tasks.
Overview of Modules
• Core Concepts
– Introduction
– Evidence-Centered Design
– Universal Design, Accessibility, Sensitivity, and Bias
• Content and Item Specifications
– English Language Arts
– Mathematics
• Item and Task Types
– Selected Response, Constructed Response, and Technology-Enhanced Items
– Extended Response and Performance Tasks
• Grade Level Considerations
– Elementary
– Middle
– High School
• Stimulus Considerations
• Item Review
Presenter
Presentation Notes
Let’s begin by providing an overview of the modules that have been developed to help prepare educators to design and review items and tasks.
{+}
Three modules will be presented to all item writers and reviewers, namely the Introduction module currently being viewed, a module on Evidence-Centered Design, and a module on Universal Design, Accessibility, Sensitivity, and Bias.
{+} Another set of modules focuses on the Content and Item specifications that item writers will use to guide the development and review of items and performance tasks. Separate modules exist for English Language Arts and for Mathematics.
{+} Within each content area, there are also modules that focus on the various item and task types that will be developed to measure student learning.
{+} Within each content area, there are also modules that focus on specific considerations that should be made when developing or reviewing items and performance tasks for elementary, middle, and high school grade levels.{+} Again, within each content area, there is also a module that focuses on considerations that should be made when developing or selecting stimuli for items and performance tasks. {+} Finally, there are modules that focus on the review of it.

E-school is a web application, which includes adaptive characteristics, i.e. the student is able to adapt some features of the system. The presentation summarises the experience at a Secondary Highshool
A presentation on the use of online Assessment Diaries at Glamorgan. The presentation will enable the viewer to understand the logistical process of gathering assessment deadlines and feedback dates and how these are brought together for a student and staff overview of the Assessment Diaries. Participants will be invited to discuss the feasibility of transferring this approach into their institution.

4. AWIM is a K-8 science and engineering based
program funded by KIA with a three year
implementation phase.
All 8th grade classrooms will use the JetToy
Challenge during their Force & Motion Unit
Training for the JetToy Challenge will occur in
September of 2013 prior to teaching the unit
The Motorized Toy Car is being evaluated
for use in an exploratory class
The Glider Challenge is being evaluated
for use in an ELT class
5. We are fortunate to have two content planning
days for each subject area scheduled for the
2013-2014 school year
The content planning days will be two
consecutive school days
The dates will be shared with you once they
have been finalized on the professional
learning calendar
The remaining slides will touch on
some of the issues we will be discussing
during these content planning days
6. In early May, science teachers came
together to revise common unit
assessments
Previous test questions and sample
questions from other tests were used to
develop preliminary common unit
assessments
We will begin this process in social
studies as well
7. Constructed Response
Items will be added to each Common Unit
Assessment
Additional items will be developed for each
unit as supplemental resources
The requirements and grading of the
constructed response items will be
discussed in more detail during our
upcoming content planning days
8. Formative Assessment
Items will be developed for each unit that
should be used as Formative Assessments.
These items may be constructed response
items as previously discussed or they may
be in another format
Formative Assessment will be discussed in
more detail during our upcoming content
planning days
9. OAS (Online Assessment System)
Due to a lack of computer lab time, OAS has
not been a practical option in previous years
Additionally, OAS questions have not
been the best examples of aligned content (many
questions are still from QCC objectives)
However, OAS has been revised
In our efforts to develop constructed
response and formative assessment items,
we will re-evaluate OAS items.
10. This past year, we started the process of
curriculum alignment. The process is massive
and it still on-going.
Content Unit pages will be revised or
developed based on this curriculum alignment
Some content maps, concepts, or essential
questions may be revised during the
alignment process

11. Pretest window August 12th – 16th
The pretest does not have to be given all on one day
The first unit overlaps with the pretest window
Remediate and/or Accelerate Days
For most units, there are two days at the end of the
unit designated for remediation or acceleration
Principals agreed to return to our previous
benchmark schedule; therefore, some
groups may have Benchmark II after
Spring Break
