1. The document traces the history of social networks from 1971 to present day networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
2. It examines how social media has impacted journalism, with journalists increasingly relying on social media to find stories and sources of information.
3. Citizen journalism has also grown with social media, allowing ordinary users to participate in reporting and disseminating information and diverse points of view.
The idea behind “citizen journalism” is that news can be produced by ordinary people who have never been introduced to any professional journalistic training. “Citizen media”, “participatory media”, “street journalism”, “grassroots journalism”, “open-source media”, “the people’s media”… etc are all names that may refer to citizens taking part in the process of reporting news. This presentation attempts to give you an idea about the main concepts behind “Citizen Media”, shows how this latter functions in the U.S. and how people and professional media interact in the U.S. on the basis of the traditions of “citizen media.”
Pivoting off Jay Rosen's definition of citizen journalism, this presentation draws on Steve Outing's "11 Layers of Citizen Journalism" to illustrate some of the key features of this form of newswork.
Online multimedia journalism is the process of combining text, images, sound, videos and graphics, to tell an interesting story with the use of the new technologies and internet.

Introduction: “In todays modern world, it is only natural to utilize our ever advancing technology. Things like smart phones, Bluetooth, and computers are making it easier to keep in touch and share so many things than ever before. We have delved into a strange new world that may have once been considered a science fiction fantasy world. It has become a part of our lives, a part of our culture.
Facebook, as one of the leading social networking sites, is one of the most influential channels on society and its culture. This new media channel is so integrated into society that it’s hard to imagine life without it, and to find someone who doesn’t use Facebook is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. It has merged with existing culture and has even created a pop culture of its own.

“This information already shows a connections with 2 of the 7 elements of culture. People are using Facebook as a way to keep in touch with people, and to find new “friends”. By using Facebook, we are creating a social organization that centers on the social networking site. Who is a part of this organization? The 800 million active monthly users.
