Social Media: Good or Bad?

  Facebook saved my son’s life…
Content of the article…
• A young boy aged 4, started to get obscure
  rashes, regular nosebleeds and tiredness,
these were all unusual acts from the four-year
  old.
• Oblivious to what was wrong with his son,
father (Philip Rice) uploaded a picture of his
rash-covered son on Facebook, in the hope
that someone would advise him on what to do
  to aid his son.
• He had an instant reply, from a doctor who
said that he should rush his son to the hospital
immediately. Philip did so, eventually finding
out that if he wouldn’t have rushed his son to
the hospital in the time he did, the leukaemia
they discovered he had would’ve been worse.
Potential dangers of social media...
There are many dangers with using social media, we are
all
aware of these but yet we still use it!
Anyone can in theory see what you have posted online, and they
can learn a lot about you just by looking at your profile. You can be
stalked, anyone in the world can access your profile and if you keep
putting up status’ then they could find out much more about you than
you may want.

I think the main danger of using social media is that you can be who
you want, your profile might not tell the whole story and people can
pretend to be people they’re not. You could be talking to anyone
online, you don’t really know who they are, anyone could potentially
be pretending to be your friend. You never know.
There’s also bullying online, people seem to have the guts
to speak their mind on the internet because they feel like
nothing bad will happen back to them and no ones
 watching them.
Why social media isn’t dangerous...

• Social Media can be a dangerous thing but in
this case I don’t think it is; it’s a good thing that
so many people saw the photo of the rash and
were willing to help diagnose the condition the
boy has. It is also good thing that so many
different people with professions are online and
are willing to help him, because who knows what
would’ve happened to Phil’s son if it wasn’t for
the quick response that they got.
