Felix Baumgartner broke the sound barrier by leaping from space on October 14, 2012, exactly 65 years after Chuck Yeager's initial sound barrier-breaking flight. Baumgartner jumped from 39 km above Roswell, NM and became the first person to break the sound barrier without the aid of any vehicle. More than 8 million people watched the event live and over 3 million tweets were sent during Baumgartner's record-breaking skydive.
