**RE-POST from Ogilvy&Mather slideshare account.**
I spent several months in sub-Saharan Africa last year to establish Ogilvy & Mather's social media capabilities in the region. This doesn't make me an 'Africa expert'(!) but I compiled a trends report based on my observations, reinforced with data, cases, examples and anecdotes.
The report covers consumer, business and digital marketing trends with actionable call-outs answering "what does this mean?"
It is written for Global Marketers and business people who are looking to launch or improve their Africa business ... as well as anyone open to busting a lot of the stereotypes and misinformation about Africa. In sum, it's an inspiring place we are simply not looking to enough.

Africa seems to be alive with new possibilities. There is an unprecedented attention on Africa – after decades of reporting only about famine, disease and war, international media have begun reporting about success stories, business opportunities and the "new" Africa. How can African journalists be best equipped to play a leading role in conveying diverse, current and interesting stories through local and international media?

Social Media Week is built on the belief that we should better
understand how technology is providing new inspiration for how we
live, work and create. For 2014, Social Media Week Lagos introduced
the #55FORWARD campaign as a way to bring all of the continent into
its February activities. The campaign, focused on highlighting the
work of innovators from each of the 55 African nations, was an
opportunity to really show this year’s theme “A connected Africa is the
future” at work.
Ambassadors selected for the 2014 event, we are organizing online
events, projects and other activities that keep each of us connected.
