The document discusses language policy and multilingualism in the European Union (EU). It notes that while the EU recognizes 23 official languages, English is emerging as a common language of communication. Several reports and analyses are summarized that address issues like:
- Promoting multilingualism while minimizing disadvantages
- Encouraging learning of "personal adoptive languages" between EU citizens
- Whether equality is best achieved through equal recognition of all languages, linguistic harmonization, or language maintenance
- How multilingualism helps build a pan-European identity without compromising national identities
Coming down to the Himalayas ... from the heights of TibetPradeep Kumar
Tibet they say is roof of the world
Coming out of Tibet by road means coming down from a height of 5000+ metres down to about 1000+ metres
At the edge of Tibetan plateau, I noticed a sudden drop
The Himalayan mountains lie on this edge and down the slope
The snow capped peaks appeared to be at a lower elevation than the edge I was standing on
The Himalayas seem grouped in clusters
These clusters are separated by the rivers flowing down
You can come down along the rivers gradually: there is no snow
As you come down, you will notice a dramatic change in the landscape: from the barren desert like look to a lush green sight, of trees with streams of water gushing down … an all too familiar sight
Learn how to connect people with Angel Food Ministries and stretch their food dollar. If you are a case manager, social worker or otherwise help fragile populations who need to increase their nutritional intake. View this brief video to learn how.
The document provides information on the history, geography, and attractions of Crete, Greece's largest island. It details how Crete has been inhabited by successive civilizations from 2800 BC to the present day. It then describes the four regions of Crete and lists 10 top attractions, including the ancient palace of Knossos. Further sections profile major cities like Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, and Lasithi, and discuss Cretan culture, cuisine, music, and local heroes like author Nikos Kazantzakis.
The document discusses the annual dolphin drive hunt in Japan where approximately 2,500 dolphins and small whales are killed using spears, hooks, and knives, causing the dolphins to thrash about in their own blood and emit high-pitched screams. Testing has shown the dolphin meat contains mercury levels higher than allowed by the Japanese government. The document also mentions feelings of disgust and sadness about the intelligence and social nature of dolphins.

I started with a blank Photoshop document and placed the magazine title in the top left corner. To continue the magazine theme, I added the same paint splats used on the front page and boxes to hold feature descriptions and pictures. I included the main feature titles and page numbers, separating regular from one-time features using subheaders in the magazine's font. Finally, I added titles and descriptions for all features and the page numbers of smaller articles to complete the contents page.

Aspect-oriented programming (AOP) is a programming paradigm that aims to increase modularity by allowing the separation of cross-cutting concerns from the core concerns. AOP works by identifying aspects, which specify cross-cutting behavior using pointcuts and advice. The advice code is executed at the specified join points. This avoids tangling and scattering of code across multiple components. AOP promotes better modularity and evolvability compared to traditional object-oriented programming.
