In 2017, St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) faced significant challenges due to Hurricane Irma, which caused severe damage, disrupting normal operations but yielding a commendable recovery effort by the staff. Despite operating at 30% capacity post-hurricane, SMMC gradually improved to approximately 65% by the end of the year, achieving a surplus of NAFL 2.8 million amidst ongoing operational struggles. The foundation aims to maintain high-quality, affordable care while addressing increasing medical costs and operational inefficiencies.
