The security of Great Britain’s gas has been maintained
despite liberalisation and a shift from indigenous supplies
to a significant reliance on imports. However, both
Government and market participants have voiced concerns
that UK is becoming increasingly exposed to supply
security incidents, whilst measures to mitigate such
events have lagged behind.
The workshop will take attendees through the key
national and global factors impacting on gas security of
supply, the role of recent initiatives such as Ofgem’s Gas
Security of Supply Significant Code Review, the potential
for new gas storage investments and the obstacles that
need to be overcome.
The Gastoria Exercise provides participants with an
interactive, hands-on opportunity to assess a series of
potential gas storage opportunities with a view to their
commercial and security implications, exploring key issues
relating to contracts, business models and infrastructure

About the workshop hosts:
Mike Madden, Managing Director, MJMEnergy Ltd.
As a chartered engineer with over 30 years
operational and commercial experience, Mike offers
a blend of technical and commercial advice to clients
on a range of gas storage, LNG, gas transportation,
regulation and market development areas. Mike
started his career at British Gas spending 8 years designing,
building and maintaining the high-pressure gas network. He was
then involved in the development of the competitive gas market in
Britain. In 1995 he set up MJMEnergy Ltd.
Nick White, Principal Consultant, MJMEnergy Ltd
Nick has been providing gas market consultancy and
training since 1997, with expertise on a range of gas
storage, market regulation, LNG, trading
arrangements and security of supply issues. He has
advised on a number of storage projects both in the
UK and across Europe, focussing on regulatory and commercial
issues.
