I do not really have eating habit, because I eat everything that
I think is delicious. After I did the survey, I found out that I
seldom think about where the food I eat comes from and how
those animals are treated when they were alive. I think the two
questions above are really things we need to consider, because
it related to our heath. I remembered that I got an flyer in our
campus and it is about how pig and chicken are treated in farm.
From this flyer, I knew that the environment that those pig and
chicken grow up is really awful and this flyer tells me that those
product made from those pig and chicken will directly affect the
people, who eat then. I think the question I have for American
food industry is "Why you can ignore your clients' health? Do
you only care about how much money you make? " and "What
people can do to change the growing environment that our food
lives in (not only for animal, but also for plants)? "

I do care about what do I eat. I know that a lot of American
food is quite unhealthy, like MacDonald of KFC. These fast
food is not healthy is not only because the way they are cooked,
but also for the food source of these ingredients. Since the price
of the nuggets and burger is cheap, these chicken come from big
food factory and fed in a immoral way. I tried to keep away
from these junk food, and eat more vegetables everyday. To be
honest, I don't really cook by myself, because I am a
international student and live by myself. When I am in a exam
period, I don't have time at all, and I don't know how to cook.
When I go out I would choose Chipoltee which have more
vegetables and looks more healthy; however,I don't know it is
really more healthy or not.

My eating habits are actually pretty much the same as Yue
Wangs as in i really have little care what I eat. My only
concerns are if it tastes good or not. I thing the only thing about
what I have to know about my food before I eat it is exactly
what it is I am eating. I know of some crazy foods out there that
are made from certain disgusting parts of animals. As long as I
know what I am eating and it tastes good however, it does not
bother me what I eat. The question i would have for the
American Food industry would be "Do you think you can try to
make more healthier foods for those who care for it while still
retaining the same delicious foods that those who don't care can
enjoy?

I try to stay away from junk foods or fast foods, I don't really
care much for where the food came from when I go to grocery
stores as long asit's good parts of the animal and I choose riper
produces. I do careabout the living standards of the animal
when it was being raised justfor health reasons, I wouldn't want
to catch any diseases and I alsocare about what the animal was,
I'm not to keen on eating rat. Fordrinks I don't mind what I
drink, but I try to stay away fromcaffeinated and high sugar
type drinks, doesn't sit well with mystomach. The question I
would ask the American food industry is if theycould lower the
prices without sacrificing the quality of the product?

With the overabundance of packaged foods commonly known
as ‘ TV dinners’ on our supermarket and convenient store
shelves and fridges and a fast food joint at every other corner,
gourmet cooking let alone knowing where the tomato found on
my hamburger came from are issues that will hardly cross my
mind I am either shuttling from class to the library or work or
to practice for a school activity of one kind or another, so
taking the time to dismantle that which I am eating proves a
cumbersome task and I subconsciously relegate it to the back of
my mind and do what I call “mechanical refueling” just enough
food to get me to the next stop of a usually high charged life.
Having taken this survey I am more alive to the fact that I need
to know what gets into my body, I might not do it all the time
but I will most certainly make a conscious effort from now on.

My(Chuxian Lu) Discussion:
My making a conscious effort to eat good I am limiting effects
on my health best as I can, since nobody can keep disease at bay
by just merely dieting genetics also play a role, but I want to
know that I did my bit, I slip up at times as most people do,
with time though my food culture has gotten better. I am that
person who reads the labels before buying even a can of yeast, I
prefer free-range chicken to store bought and I believe tofu
holds its own with any dessert out there. I don’t know where
everything I eat comes from, maybe because of time constraints
at times but I make an effort every time to buy my food items
from places I have researched mostly health food stores and yes
I’m that guy you will find asking the store keeper questions
whenever I get a chance.
Please summarize those three group members' discussion, and
be as specific as possible. DON’T say, "We had an interesting
conversation because people had different opinions. For
example, xxx’s group thought that the reading was effective
because... Whereas Xxx’s thought that the readingwas
ineffective…

As a whole I dont watch what I eat. It is more of a what I want
when I want. If I am in the mood for a burger I go get a burger.
I do care about quality though. I would rather pay more or go
out of my way for tasty quality food than eat greasy
questionable food products. I like to enjoy the fact that I can
identify the food that I eat. I much rather eat out than cook at
home, being waited on has its perks, if the restaurant is not over
crowded and the service is prompt and courteous Having food
delivered or take out is my favorite. Being able to eat in the
comfort of my home without having to cook or clean up after
cooking is best. Also food always seems to taste better when it
is prepared for you. Convince and taste are priority.

Before I came United States, I preferred to eat seafood and
vegetables. My eating habits were healthy. However, when I
came here, I often eat meat because in United Sates, vegetables
and seafood is expensive than meat. So, my eating habit is
changed. I do not care about eating recently. When I want to eat
burger, I just go to eat burger just like Adam. I know I have to
think about my eating habits because my eating habit is not
healthy way. In addition, I want to know American tradition
food. I think burger and pizza is not American traditional food.
But, I cannot image other American food.

I am working in a restaurant, so my responsibility is create a
safe and delicious food. A course menu is usually $120 where I
work. A lot of people are looking for delicious food and clean
food. In the United States, the fact that hamburgers and steak
first come to mind. There are many of places, we can see cows.
Food service industry in the United States usually relate about
meat, so people are easily getting fat. I have been Ruth's Chris
steak house, and I ordered rip eye steak. It was so delicious
even it was just baked by oven. During my life in United States,
I used to go Costco for buying meat. Going to other countries of
the world, U.S. beef is the best flavor, and I have a question
about how to raise cows, and the grade of meat exports to my
country.

The attitude I have towards my eating habits is so-so. I eat
healthy but when I allow my self to cheat on not so healthy
foods I tend to go overboard. I know that I need to improve in
that area a bit just so that I can feel comfortable about my
health and how my body feels on a daily basis. The questions
that I have for the American food industry is, if their food is
made with the exact ingredients that they advertise it to have?
Also is some healthy food in some way considered not healthy
due to pesticides, etc and is what we are digesting from it
harmful in any way to are bodies to make it cause certain
illnesses we always wondered why we got?

My eating habits are not something I would necessarily brag
about but im not ashamed either. I've had a simple menu and
level of requirements my whole life. I eat simple pastas and
pizzas, mac and cheese, steak, or sandwiches with very little on
them. My meals usually contain a lot of breads, sauces, and
meats. I do tend to put a lot of butter and cheeses on my foods
which I know isnt great. But I do however snack on fruits and
vegetables when I need something inbetween meals. Walk in the
kitchen and get a banana, raspberries, apples, and carrots. I
would like to change the way I eat and live a healthier lifestyle.
I dont really have any questions about the food industry because
I feel like I understand the way works. I'm sure I dont but as of
now I think I can hold my own.

I really care about what I eat, because I like to eat steam rice.
Sometime noodle is ok for my, but if I can find steam rice, I
will always choose steam rice. I think that is my eating habit.
For me, I do not really think about where the food comes from.
I just think about whether it is tasty or not. When I first come to
the U.S. I found out that the price of meat is lower than the
price of vegetables and fruit. I am kind of wondering why.
Because in my home country, meat is kind of expensive. In my
home country, poor people cannot afford meat, so they are
skinny, but in the U.S, the people who are fat is not rich people.
Most of them are poor people. The question I want to ask about
American food industry is: Why the price of meat is cheaper
than vegetables?

After filling out the food survey, I suddenly realize how
careless I'm to the food I eat. I always consider myself as a
healthy food eater; however, now I found out I didn't pay
enough attention to many eating habit before. For example, the
ingredient of the food I eat and where the food comes from, etc.
So from now on, I'll pay more attention on the food that I eat
and develop good habit My question toward the American food
industry is that why American people eat so many fast food,
how America became a fast food country?

After filling out this survey I realized that I am somewhat
careless in what I eat. Being a college student who supports
myself I usually choose price over all other things when
considering what to eat. If the food is free I could usually care
less what it is or where it came from as long as it does not have
nuts. The one thing that forces me to be somewhat conscious of
what I eat is my deathly allergy to nuts. This forces me to
constantly be reading labels and asking people what is in what I
eat. I really wish that I did have the money to decide to not eat
an unhealthy alternative or to choose to eat organic, however
budget constraints make this very difficult. I wonder about
what goes into our food? Why do we eat so much corn syrup in
the United States compared to other places around the world?
Do we consume a large intake of GMOs? What regulations are
in place about the fair treatment of animals? These are some of
the questions I have about the American food industry.

Fordrinks I don't mind what I
drink, but I try to stay away fromcaffeinated and high sugar

would ask the American food industry is if theycould lower the
prices without sacrificing the quality of the product?
Post by Sijun Chai On Friday

Small Group discussionGroup Leader:Sijun Chai Message no. .docx

  • 1. Small Group discussion Group Leader:Sijun Chai Message no. 323 Posted by Yue Wang on Thursday, March 14, 2013 5:59pm Subject: Sijun's Group I do not really have eating habit, because I eat everything that I think is delicious. After I did the survey, I found out that I seldom think about where the food I eat comes from and how those animals are treated when they were alive. I think the two questions above are really things we need to consider, because it related to our heath. I remembered that I got an flyer in our campus and it is about how pig and chicken are treated in farm. From this flyer, I knew that the environment that those pig and chicken grow up is really awful and this flyer tells me that those product made from those pig and chicken will directly affect the people, who eat then. I think the question I have for American food industry is "Why you can ignore your clients' health? Do you only care about how much money you make? " and "What people can do to change the growing environment that our food lives in (not only for animal, but also for plants)? " Message no. 325 Posted by Xiaofan Long on Friday, March 15, 2013 7:34am Subject: sijun Chai I do care about what do I eat. I know that a lot of American food is quite unhealthy, like MacDonald of KFC. These fast food is not healthy is not only because the way they are cooked, but also for the food source of these ingredients. Since the price of the nuggets and burger is cheap, these chicken come from big food factory and fed in a immoral way. I tried to keep away
  • 2. from these junk food, and eat more vegetables everyday. To be honest, I don't really cook by myself, because I am a international student and live by myself. When I am in a exam period, I don't have time at all, and I don't know how to cook. When I go out I would choose Chipoltee which have more vegetables and looks more healthy; however,I don't know it is really more healthy or not. Message no. 327[Branch from no. 324] Posted by Mathew Bourdo on Friday, March 15, 2013 12:34pm Subject: Re: Sijun's Group My eating habits are actually pretty much the same as Yue Wangs as in i really have little care what I eat. My only concerns are if it tastes good or not. I thing the only thing about what I have to know about my food before I eat it is exactly what it is I am eating. I know of some crazy foods out there that are made from certain disgusting parts of animals. As long as I know what I am eating and it tastes good however, it does not bother me what I eat. The question i would have for the American Food industry would be "Do you think you can try to make more healthier foods for those who care for it while still retaining the same delicious foods that those who don't care can enjoy? Message no. 328[Branch from no. 327] Posted by Bernard Heinan on Friday, March 15, 2013 1:13pm Subject: Re: Sijun's Group I try to stay away from junk foods or fast foods, I don't really care much for where the food came from when I go to grocery stores as long asit's good parts of the animal and I choose riper produces. I do careabout the living standards of the animal when it was being raised justfor health reasons, I wouldn't want to catch any diseases and I alsocare about what the animal was,
  • 3. I'm not to keen on eating rat. Fordrinks I don't mind what I drink, but I try to stay away fromcaffeinated and high sugar type drinks, doesn't sit well with mystomach. The question I would ask the American food industry is if theycould lower the prices without sacrificing the quality of the product? Post by Sijun Chai(group leader) On Friday With the overabundance of packaged foods commonly known as ‘ TV dinners’ on our supermarket and convenient store shelves and fridges and a fast food joint at every other corner, gourmet cooking let alone knowing where the tomato found on my hamburger came from are issues that will hardly cross my mind I am either shuttling from class to the library or work or to practice for a school activity of one kind or another, so taking the time to dismantle that which I am eating proves a cumbersome task and I subconsciously relegate it to the back of my mind and do what I call “mechanical refueling” just enough food to get me to the next stop of a usually high charged life. Having taken this survey I am more alive to the fact that I need to know what gets into my body, I might not do it all the time but I will most certainly make a conscious effort from now on. northeast maleStateSexRace/EthnicityAge GroupFirst YearLast YearRankCause of DeathDeathsNortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020101Short Gestation388NortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020102Congenital Anomalies304NortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020103SIDS131NortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020104Maternal Pregnancy Comp.126NortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020105Placenta Cord Membranes79NortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020106Unintentional Injury61NortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020107Respiratory Distress55NortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020108Bacterial Sepsis51NortheastMalesAll Races,<1 yrs201020109Neonatal Hemorrhage43NortheastMalesAll Races,<1

It is more of a what I want when I want. If I am in the mood for a burger I go get a burger. I do care about quality though. I would rather pay more or go out of my way for tasty quality food than eat greasy questionable food products. I like to enjoy the fact that I can identify the food that I eat. I much rather eat out than cook at home, being waited on has its perks, if the restaurant is not over crowded and the service is prompt and courteous Having food delivered or take out is my favorite. Being able to eat in the comfort of my home without having to cook or clean up after cooking is best. Also food always seems to taste better when it is prepared for you. Convince and taste are priority. Message no. 336[Branch from no. 333]

However, when I came here, I often eat meat because in United Sates, vegetables and seafood is expensive than meat. So, my eating habit is changed. I do not care about eating recently. When I want to eat burger, I just go to eat burger just like Adam. I know I have to think about my eating habits because my eating habit is not healthy way. In addition, I want to know American tradition food. I think burger and pizza is not American traditional food. But, I cannot image other American food. A course menu is usually $120 where I work. A lot of people are looking for delicious food and clean food. In the United States, the fact that hamburgers and steak first come to mind. There are many of places, we can see cows. Food service industry in the United States usually relate about meat, so people are easily getting fat. I have been Ruth's Chris steak house, and I ordered rip eye steak. It was so delicious even it was just baked by oven. During my life in United States, I used to go Costco for buying meat. Going to other countries of the world, U.S. beef is the best flavor, and I have a question about how to raise cows, and the grade of meat exports to my country. I know that I need to improve in that area a bit just so that I can feel comfortable about my health and how my body feels on a daily basis. The questions that I have for the American food industry is, if their food is made with the exact ingredients that they advertise it to have? Also is some healthy food in some way considered not healthy due to pesticides, etc and is what we are digesting from it harmful in any way to are bodies to make it cause certain illnesses we always wondered why we got? I've had a simple menu and level of requirements my whole life. I eat simple pastas and pizzas, mac and cheese, steak, or sandwiches with very little on them. My meals usually contain a lot of breads, sauces, and meats. I do tend to put a lot of butter and cheeses on my foods which I know isnt great. But I do however snack on fruits and vegetables when I need something inbetween meals. Walk in the kitchen and get a banana, raspberries, apples, and carrots. I would like to change the way I eat and live a healthier lifestyle. I dont really have any questions about the food industry because I feel like I understand the way works. I'm sure I dont but as of now I think I can hold my own. 2.Zi Lin’s group Group leader:Zi Lin Message no. 332 Posted by Li Wang on Friday, March 15, 2013 6:30pm Subject: Zi Lin's Group

For me, I do not really think about where the food comes from. I just think about whether it is tasty or not. When I first come to the U.S. I found out that the price of meat is lower than the price of vegetables and fruit. I am kind of wondering why. Because in my home country, meat is kind of expensive. In my home country, poor people cannot afford meat, so they are skinny, but in the U.S, the people who are fat is not rich people. Most of them are poor people. The question I want to ask about American food industry is: Why the price of meat is cheaper than vegetables? This forces me to constantly be reading labels and asking people what is in what I eat. I really wish that I did have the money to decide to not eat an unhealthy alternative or to choose to eat organic, however budget constraints make this very difficult. I wonder about what goes into our food? Why do we eat so much corn syrup in the United States compared to other places around the world? Do we consume a large intake of GMOs? What regulations are in place about the fair treatment of animals? These are some of the questions I have about the American food industry. 3.Sijun’s group group leader:Sijun Chai Message no. 325

These fast food is not healthy is not only because the way they are cooked, but also for the food source of these ingredients. Since the price of the nuggets and burger is cheap, these chicken come from big food factory and fed in a immoral way. I tried to keep away from these junk food, and eat more vegetables everyday. I know of some crazy foods out there that are made from certain disgusting parts of animals. As long as I know what I am eating and it tastes good however, it does not bother me what I eat. Post by Sijun Chai On Friday With the overabundance of packaged foods commonly known as ‘ TV dinners’ on our supermarket and convenient store shelves and fridges and a fast food joint at every other corner, gourmet cooking let alone knowing where the tomato found on my hamburger came from are issues that will hardly cross my mind I am either shuttling from class to the library or work or to practice for a school activity of one kind or another, so taking the time to dismantle that which I am eating proves a cumbersome task and I subconsciously relegate it to the back of my mind and do what I call “mechanical refueling” just enough food to get me to the next stop of a usually high charged life. Having taken this survey I am more alive to the fact that I need to know what gets into my body, I might not do it all the time but I will most certainly make a conscious effort from now on.
