City authorities in Mumbai demolished the shanty home of Azharuddin Ismail, a child star from the movie "Slumdog Millionaire", forcing his family to live on the streets. Ismail played the character of Salim as a child in the Oscar-winning film about a poor Indian boy competing on a game show. The shanty home was one of several illegally built along a drain that were demolished as part of a local clean-up effort before monsoon season. Ismail and his family are now homeless despite promises from the housing authority to provide them a new home after pictures emerged of the child stars living in squalor despite the film's success.
