2. ■ Why does it resonate for you?
I am choosing the topic Maternal Health which is number 5. This topic resonates
with me because it hits close to home. My home country Somalia is one of the
top 5 countries with the highest rate of maternal and infant mortality. There are
many factors that contribute to this such as lack of healthcare, postpartum
knowledge, and affordability. I want better for my country so this resonates a lot
with me.

3. ■ How can your interest be applied locally?
My interest can be applied locally by educating my community
about the issue. I would like to bring this issue to the group that I
volunteer at so perhaps we can raise money so healthcare can get
better in the areas that need it most. If there isn’t awareness
brought to the forefront, than change won’t be made. So I think it
starts with education.

4. ■ Where can you make the
greatest contribution?
The greatest contribution I can
make is to educate my community.
Learning about the issue, finding a
solution and spreading it to the
people around me is a great
contribution and a great way to
start.

5. I think opening up a Twitter account
to get the word out as well as
starting a webpage. With the
webpage I can start a fundraiser
and have the money donated
directly to the United Nations
Improving Maternal Health
advocacy group directly.
