To fully understand what people are trying to say, we must look beneath the surface and try to figure out the underlying meaning, rather than just accepting things at face value. We should learn to hold back our own thoughts and focus on recapping in our minds what others tell us, so we can evaluate and understand their message rather than jumping to conclusions. If we cannot restate what someone has told us, then we have not truly understood their point.
