Meghan Sleezer is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Concordia University Chicago. She is currently a PhD student in Secondary Mathematics Education projected to graduate in 2010. She received her BA in Mathematics in 2004 and MA in Mathematics Education in 2017. Additionally, she has been the organist at St. James Lutheran Church since 2008 where she also directs the mixed choir, bell choir, and men's choir. As an Assistant Professor, she teaches general education math courses, degree completion courses, and elementary math methods. Her online courses consist of weekly readings, activities, graded assignments, discussions, and a final exam.

Universities archive massive amounts of data about students and their activities. Students also generate significant amounts of “digital exhaust” as they use academic technologies. How can faculty and administrators use automated analysis of this data to save time and conduct targeted interventions to improve student learning?
The emerging discipline of Learner Analytics conducts analysis of this data to learn about student behaviors, predict students at-risk of failure, and identify potential interventions to help those students. In this presentation, we will discuss the contours of this discipline and review the state of research conducted to date. We will then look at several examples of Learner Analytics services and hear from California State University educators who are using these tools to help their students. Finally, we will suggest some immediate ways that Analytics can be conducted at San Diego State.

Wayzata School District #284 is a suburban district in Minnesota that has been administering MAP for 10 years at the elementary and middle school level. We first started using the MAP tests at the high school three years ago. We use the philosophy of Madeline Hunter to guide our instructional planning and have recently placed a district-wide emphasis on the creation and implementation of Professional Learning Communities. Our team includes a high school associate principal and two high school math teachers.

After 15 years of stalemate mathematics reform to improve the mathematics outcomes of Bermuda’s predominantly Black student population, Bermuda Public Schools created a National Mathematics Strategy. The Strategy was built from the ground up to combat fundamental forces hindering the mathematics outcomes of Black children in the West: (1) Resistant worldviews about Black children, (2) faulty assumptions about what mathematics is, (3) faulty assumptions about how mathematics should be taught, (4) and institutionalized impotence of senior leadership to address policy, resources and systemic barriers. Chronicled in this presentation are the successes and challenges in implementing the kind of urgent reform needed to maximize outcomes for Black student populations amidst political, cultural and historical obstacles. The perspective of mathematics education leaders and professionals at senior, mid and teacher levels are shared.

After 15 years of stalemate mathematics reform to improve the mathematics outcomes of Bermuda’s predominantly Black student population, Bermuda Public Schools created a National Mathematics Strategy. The Strategy was built from the ground up to combat fundamental forces hindering the mathematics outcomes of Black children in the West: (1) Resistant worldviews about Black children, (2) faulty assumptions about what mathematics is, (3) faulty assumptions about how mathematics should be taught, (4) and institutionalized impotence of senior leadership to address policy, resources and systemic barriers. Chronicled in this presentation are the successes and challenges in implementing the kind of urgent reform needed to maximize outcomes for Black student populations amidst political, cultural and historical obstacles. The perspective of mathematics education leaders and professionals at senior, mid and teacher levels are shared.
