A TEENAGE girl from Alderholt has
been found dead at a beauty spot
near Rockbourne.
Police are investigating the death
of 15-year-old Ashli Blake, whose
body was found at the Eyre Coote
Monument in the early hours of
Sunday morning.
A post mortem examination was
set to be carried out yesterday, but
police say they are not treating her
death as suspicious.
Ashli was a Year 11 pupil at The
Burgate School in Fordingbridge.
A police spokesman said: “We can
confirm police received a call during
the early hours of Sunday morning
about the death of a teenage girl.
“Her body was found near Sir Eyre
Coote Monument by a member of
the public. Detectives are not treat-
ing the death as suspicious.
“We're in the process of contacting
next-of-kin and completing formal
identification. A file for HM Coroner
is being prepared.”
A Burgate School spokesman said:
“We are shocked and saddened to
hear the tragic news that one of our
Year 11 students has died. Ashli
Blake was an absolutely delightful,
caring and mature young lady.
“She was working hard at school
and was very well-regarded and
respected by staff and students
alike. The school is pulling together
as a community and supporting each
other.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out
to Ashli's family at this most difficult
time.”
In a letter to parents headteacher
David Pover said the school is estab-
lishing a garden in memory of Ashli.
The letter says: “We are now able
to share with you the tragic news of
the death of Ashli
Blake; she was much-
loved and is sadly
missed.
“As a school we are
immensely proud of the
way our students and
staff have come togeth-
er as this reality begins
to sink in.
“Students are talking
to each other, to staff
and to their parents.
“We have extremely experienced
staff on the ground looking after all
our students with sensitivity and
flexibility. A trained bereavement
counsellor is currently on site and
being a great help.
“We are calling in further trained
bereavement counselling
for the next few days to
support anyone who asks
for this nature of support.
“Following discussion
with our Year 2, we are
establishing our Memory
Garden as a centre for
reflection and fond memo-
ries of Ashli, which may
be of support as we face
the next few days.
“Students are welcome to leave
flowers, gifts or messages of
remembrance for Ashli as they
wish.”
