Show Report from Sunday 12th October 2014
S&D Autumn Show at Priory Equestrian in Frensham
With an all-time record number of pre-entries to the S&D Autumn Show it promised to be an exciting day and we were not disappointed. With over 100 entrants on the day, the classes were busy and very competitive. Mother Nature was also very kind to us and the rain held off until the last class had just finished.
This annual horse show has been held in the area now for 24 years. Sandy Payne, owner of S&D Equitation, is a local freelance instructor as well as running her highly successful livery yard in Bentley Surrey. Sandy said “This show wouldn’t be possible without the amazing support of our loyal helpers and who help every year. With next year being our 25th year anniversary we are looking to hold a special anniversary show with extra classes and prizes”.
Ring One
Class 4 Farnham Upholstery Improvers Jumping was the biggest jumping class of the day. With 13 out of the 34 riders going into the timed jump off it proved to be a hotly fought out competition. Georgina Allan (12) was fourth to jump off and blasted around the course on her lovely pony Twirl (pictured left) in a time of just 17.5 seconds. Everyone tried to beat her time but no-one came close until the penultimate competitor, Laurette Parsons (39), she shot off from the start and cut every corner she could but finished with a time of 21sec, just not quick enough to beat Georgina. Georgina Allen, who attends Robert May’s School in Odiham, said “I am really pleased with Twirl, she was amazing, sadly though she is up for sale as I have grown and am moving up to a bigger pony”. Georgina was presented with “The T. Godfrey Challenge Cup”, which has been presented to the winner of this class for the last 15 years. Georgina also won the Novice Jumping on Twirl. If anyone is interested in finding out more about Twirl please email me and I can forward you the owners details.

Ring Two
It was lovely to see so many children with their ponies competing in this ring, for many it was also their first ever show. One of those was Evie Tozer(pictured left) aged just 4 years old, Evie won the “Middleton’s Masonic Antiques Handsomest Gelding” on her lovely pony Jim Jam. Evie spent the whole time giggling and smiling as she rode expertly around the arena. She then went on to win the overall winner between Handsomest Gelding and Prettiest Mare
Another that deserves a mention is old timer “Cloud” who at 28 years old won the “My First Pony” with her jockey Isobel Oliver (7). Cloud (pictured right) was purchased by her current owner Kelly Faughan from S&D Equitation over 20 years ago and has attended many of the shows over the years. She was bought out of retirement for this show especially as Isobel’s own pony couldn’t go due to lameness.
INTERESTING GOSSIP
Was lovely to see so many of you again and hope you continue to keep coming back to us. I saw a few new partnerships in action and also some massively improving ones. My very own daughter Jasmine had a great day on her new pony Trigger, purchased just the previous weekend. Trigger proved to be everything promised and both Jasmine and Triggers sharer Lily had a fabulous day coming home with a handful of rosettes each.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to see much of the action in the rings but hope to change that at the next show. I did however see lots of great sportsmanship going on. So many well behaved children and amazing ponies.

HELPERS
I would like to publicly thank our helpers on the day. They had their work cut out this year with so many lovely people turning up! We think the car park attendants coped admirably squeezing everyone in! We know it was tight and we appreciate how tolerant all competitors were. We are looking at how we can resolve this in the future.
The shows we organise rely on the goodwill of our helpers. If we hold more shows through the year we may need more helpers. Anyone interested let me know please.
CONTACT US
It is nice to receive feedback and suggestions about the shows so if you have time please do send me (Jeanette) a quick email at darkwaterwillow@yahoo.co.uk We are also on Facebook just clickthis link https://www.facebook.com/SandDEquitation and like the page to receive all future updates.
FUTURE SHOW DATES
Next year we are hoping to hold a 25th Anniversary Show a little earlier in the year possibly at an outdoor venue. This show will be a bigger show with more classes. Do let us know which classes you would like to help us gauge what will be popular. We will also still hold the Autumn Show hopefully at Priory Equestrian again.
FUTURE CLINIC AND MINI EVENTS
During the year we hold a selection of clinics for both adults and children. These are predominately taught by Sandy Payne. I am sure many of you know Sandy but those that don’t, Sandy is the owner of S&D Equitation and has taught for many years. Along with being a BHSii she also teaches the show jumping teams of the Hampshire Hunt Pony Club.
Mini-events that we do tend to be fun events for children with their ponies. We try to keep the cost of these as low as possible to enable everyone to be able to take part. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for up to date details of forthcoming events.
PRIZE DRAW
The result for the Prize Draw for all Pre-entries from the Autumn Show will be announced on our FACEBOOK page on Monday 20th October
