   Projections
I have used examples from Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love
(In A Hopeless Place).’ The image is projected on to
white walls of what is shown to be her flat, which is also
established through the objects shown in the shots.

The projections shown in the first two are of a moving
corn field which relates to shots in the music video
where the artist is in a corn field. You can see the corn
swaying showing that it is a moving image. Also, the
artist is shown in the right of the shot, both in MCU and
in MLS. This is because it shows that the artist is upset
and shows her vulnerability and her mind being
elsewhere, conveyed with the off centred shot. The
second image also shows the artists emotion on her
face in the MCU.

The bottom two images show a projection of time-
lapsed clouds that are also sped up moving across the
room. The artist is again seen slightly to the right of the
shot, showing that she isn't the focus of attention and
also that her mind is on something else. The clouds,
however, allow the artist to be easily seen as they are
white.
These are more shot examples from Rihanna’s ‘We
Found Love (In A Hopeless Place).’

The first projection again shows the sky and clouds,
though it is a darker, making the artist seem darker.

The next shot shows a LS of the artist which allows the
audience to see the projection, which is of a road
surrounded by fields with an American truck on it,
appealing to an American audience which is the biggest
market for pop music, even though it is on a Northern
Irish road.

The third shot shows large pink flowers which connotes
the female image and also gives a fun feeling.

The last shot again shows the time-lapsed clouds which
is the running theme for the projections shown in this
music video.

The artist is still framed to the right of the shot, keeping
in with the rule of thirds.
These projection shots are of Lana Del Rey, who is
current to my chosen genre.

This particular shot shows the artist centre frame, which
subverts the usual conventions of having the artist off
centre. Also, her orientation subverts this too, as she is
turning her head round to look behind her, instead of in
front of her.

Also the image is not projected onto her face as there is
a light shining onto it, brightening her face up but
removing the image from it.

The bottom two shots are examples from my chosen
genre from ‘Summertime Sadness.’ It shows a shot of
the camera tracking a pylon, which is projected over the
artists face. The colour has been edited to be an off
white, vintage colour, fitting in with the genre.

The artist is framed to the left of the shot, again
showing the projected image and connoting the idea
that she is the main focus of attention as her mind is
elsewhere, which is shown in the We Found Love
video.

Also, the artists shadow is quite prominent, which would
be created by the projection coming from the left whilst
the camera is placed to the right.
These are practice projection shots
that I have taken using a still
picture of trees, this helped me to
see what position the model should
stand in and what the camera angle
should be.
