Short term objectives
Three things that will help me achieve my long term goal are earning a Degree,
Proper Networking skills, and Self-confidence. The most important objective is
obtaining a college degree. When I graduated high school in 2006 having a high school
diploma was a great accomplishment, a college degree was great but it was not a
requirement. Now most companies have started to ask for a college degree, and some are
even asking for a master’s degree. Second objective is networking; knowing how to
network properly will always make the difference between getting an entry level
position, and getting a higher position in the company after graduation. Learning how to
network is the reason I chose to be a part of group number seven, so that I can get
myself out of my comfort zone. Forcing me to help organize an event, and signing up for
a mock interview is going to prepare me for something that is inevitable in the future.
Self confidence has always been an issue for me. I am not an outgoing person, and I am
very shy when it comes to meeting new people. When I first came to the university
every one told me to stay away from university studies, because according to them it
was not a real degree, and that it would be a waste of my time. So I focused all of my
attention to becoming a civil engineer. After three years I decided to go to my advisor
for some help because I knew that I couldn’t make it in engineering anymore, the classes
were getting to hard, and the requirements were no longer in my reach. The best advice
was given to me by my advisor. She said I could get any job I wanted as long I was
confident and able to sell myself.
