Shoeless Joe Jackson was a baseball player in the early 1900s who gained his nickname from playing in only his socks due to blisters. He played for the Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Chicago White Sox teams, helping the White Sox reach the World Series twice. However, during the 1919 World Series, Jackson and others were accused of throwing games, and though acquitted, he was banned from baseball. After his ban, he opened a dry cleaning business. He was considered a great hitter by Babe Ruth.
