How to write your own Slack Chatbots in Javascript Through conversational experiences people can interact with applications easier than ever before. For developers this means they have to understand how to build these natural user interfaces in addition to browser interfaces and mobile apps. In this session we will demonstrate live how to develop a chatbot for Slack. Via Node.js and the open source project botkit we’ll connect to Slack’s websocket API. The transition to web applications can solve many of the deployment problems and facilitates effortless real-time collaboration in a connected world. However, implementing rich browser applications is challenging. Besides general technical limitations, leveraging existing technology is far from trivial. In this presentation we will discuss these and other challenges based on selected browser-based applications developed at Autodesk. Moreover, we will show how Forge technology can help to accelerate application development and improve the development experience.

Using BladeRunnerJS to Build Front-End Apps that Scale - Fluent 2014

Developing large apps is difficult. Ensuring that code is consistent, well structured, tested and has an architecture that encourages enhancement and maintainability is essential. When it comes to building large server-focused apps the solutions to this problem have been tried and tested. But, how do you achieve this when building HTML5 single page apps? BladeRunnerJS is an open source developer toolkit and lightweight front-end framework that has helped Caplin Systems ensure that a 200k LoC JavaScript codebase hasn’t become a tangled mess of unstable spaghetti code. This codebase is packaged and delivered to customers as an SDK. Additionally customers receive a getting started application of around 50k LoC for them to build upon, and they’re expected not to turn that into a tangled … you get the idea. In this talk you’ll learn the main concepts to apply when building a front-end app that scales and how BladeRunnerJS can support the development process.

Having just migrated our legacy user documentation to Doc-To-Help to solve Agile authoring problems, we were able to leverage its API-generation feature to automate builds of the references we needed. Doc-To-Help lets us share authorship of developer documentation in easy, familiar formats and reuse that content among user docs, context-sensitive Help files, training materials, and websites.
