What if you have two Daughters?
Secrets of Moms who used
Playdates
"It's super important to connect with other moms," says Tammy Gold,
a psychotherapist in Short Hills, New Jersey, who has a 17-month-old
and a 4-year-old. "Motherhood can be isolating: You're alone all day,
and you think you're the only one in the universe whose baby cries
nonstop or won't sleep more than two hours at a stretch," Gold says.
"It's key to find women with whom you can relate so you can talk
about the daily details of caring for a child.

1 Be a Playdate Pro
Seek out women who bring you up, not down. "A few moms in my
playgroup weren't always truthful about how they were doing," says
Carolyn Sutton, mother of a 13 month old in Dallas. Some boasted
about how well their babies were sleeping; others tried to convince
Sutton to let her daughter cry it out. What if you're not clicking with
your group? It's okay to split off with one or two other mothers, Gold
says. "If the moms aren't supportive, you're in the wrong playgroup."

2 Pick Fun Mom Pals
Secrets of Moms who used
Playdates
"Respect a child's own tempo," says Fran Walfish, Psy.D.,
psychotherapist and author of The Self-Aware Parent. "She will
interact when she's ready." Sutton, whose daughter is painfully shy,
learned that lesson early on. "She can get scared easily, so I watch
her carefully during playdates. I used to feel that I had to make
excuses if my daughter cried or wanted to hide behind my legs, but
I've accepted that this is who she is, and I put her needs first."

3 Be a Happy Host
Secrets of Moms who used
Playdates
Even a walk around the block can turn into a great playdate activity.
Boost the playdate fun by playing Musical Chairs.
Crafts are a reliable source of playdate fun, no matter what the age of the kids you’re hosting.
Little ones love to giggle, so a no-holds-barred laugh-fest may be just the ticket for initiating some
toddler buddy bonding.
Let the kids play outside by converting a large plastic storage container into an indoor sandbox
With all the large fine motor skills it takes to pick up and toss a ball. By two years of age most
toddlers are just getting the hang of the game.
Virtually all kids are partial to hide-and-seek. They love the challenge of finding a hidden friend or
of waiting to be found.

Cooking Up Memories
Have you ever noticed how a certain smell will instantly
remind you of something? That's because the olfactory
center of the brain is very closely related to the part of
the brain that stores our memories. The kitchen is a
great learning area. It's also a wonderful place to teach
your child all of your special recipes that your mom
passed on to you when you were young.
Cook with your child, eat your tasty creations, and keep a box
or small binder with all of your recipes written on index
cards. You can share these recipes with your child when
they are all grown up.

Memory Story Time
When you tuck your little one into bed at night, try starting a
new story time tradition. Tell them a simple story about
themselves that shows how much they have grown.
Choose a few easy-to-remember statements like, "Baby
Susan didn't have any hair; big girl Susie has lots of
beautiful curly hair." Children love hearing about
themselves and this story will soon be a big hit.
Record these little night time story compositions and soon
you'll have your own library of memories to share with
your child when they're grown up!

Create a Photo Album
Decide on a theme such as Selfie Central (where you go
around the house or city one day taking as many selfies
as you can). There’s also Dress Up Then Mess Up (where
your kids put on the tackiest outfits and accessories…
and so do you). Another good one? Silly/Ugly faces. Take
dozens of pictures, print them out and then store them
in an album. You won’t believe how often your children
will want to flip through so they can remember that
special day.
