This document discusses a visioning platform launched in Iceland to crowdsource ideas for shaping the future of the country. It describes how over 1,500 Icelanders participated in vision planning sessions to develop priorities and actions across nine societal areas. The platform aims to capture the creativity of the nation through a grassroots process and establish a shared vision to guide Iceland's development in a sustainable manner.
The document discusses distance learning enrichment (DL-E) perspectives from an international handbook on information technology in education. It provides examples of DL-E projects connecting classrooms in different countries/regions, such as between Hawaii and Samoa, that aim to foster cultural awareness and provide learning opportunities not otherwise available. Assessment of these projects suggests DL-E can effectively extend students' perspectives and give them tools for a technology-driven society.

The document discusses the opportunity for Iceland to prototype a sustainable world model using its unique circumstances following the financial crisis. It proposes that Iceland reboot its infrastructure and financial system to develop new models for democracy, economy, currency, and energy. With its small population and history of democracy and entrepreneurship, Iceland could crowdsource visions and ideas from its people and invest 200 billion ISK in innovation industries like electric cars, renewable energy, education 2.0, biotech, and more using a blended values approach. This would inspire new thinking for long-term global sustainability. Contact information is provided for the Ministry of Ideas leading the effort.

It argues the time is now to act while Iceland rebuilds and finds a shared vision for long-term global prosperity within planetary boundaries.
Martin Motuku started a solar installation business called DD Installations after being inspired by an environmental documentary. Through a pilot project led by Fraser Alexander, his company equipped 51 disadvantaged homes in the Royal Bafokeng area with solar power. This gave residents access to hot water and reduced their electricity costs. The project provided Martin with new skills in construction, plumbing, and project management. He found it rewarding to help people gain access to services like geysers for the first time. While the work was challenging, Martin is grateful for the opportunity and learning experience, which has prepared him for future solar projects.

OZ would handle responsibilities like customer care, payment processing, and providing technical assistance to teams.
The document discusses techniques for improving productivity including chunking large tasks into smaller pieces, using a time-planning system to schedule work during power times and avoid procrastination, and doing weekly reviews to reprioritize and process items. It emphasizes using an inbox system like Asana to capture, evaluate, delegate, or file non-actionable items and defines next actions. The goal is to move from a personal productivity system to a shared one for increased collaboration and network effects.
This document outlines productivity hacks and tools used at Oz including Asana and GitHub issues for tracking tasks from high-level objectives down to engineering issues. It recommends habits like chunking large tasks into smaller milestones and micro-milestones, taking credit for all completions, using a time plan to avoid procrastination, and doing weekly reviews to sort and prioritize tasks.
This document discusses the lean startup methodology and pivoting. It provides an example of a company that started with a lean canvas focusing on one problem/solution, but then pivoted twice based on learning - first zooming in to focus more narrowly, then zooming out to broaden the solution. The key message is that regular measurement and testing of assumptions allows for learning that can inform pivots to refine the business model over time.

10. The Icelandic opportunity: Inspiration for a new world model
DEAR BARACK OBAMA,
31st March, 2009
G20
To the Leaders at the G20 London Summit,
A people's movement in Iceland, the Ministry of Ideas hereby outlines to the G20 leaders an
opportunity for prototyping a sustainable world. WE HAVE A PROPOSAL
What level of growth is sustainable in the long term? The answer is not clear, but it is
imperative that we find out. Our behavior is and has been unsustainable. The key to
understanding is to earnestly admit that we all share but one ultimate resource, our fragile
planet.
The crash of the Icelandic financial system was a clear early indicator of an unsustainable
economy and democracy. It demonstrated the vulnerability of modern political systems and
the need for clear values.
Solving the current challenges by adding new policies to an already fractured framework,
as well as injecting economic stimulants, should merely be a short-term fix, to keep the
wheels turning while getting to the root of the problem. We now know that long-term
problems are not solved with short-term solutions. The very foundations of liberty and
democracy must be revisited.
At this significant moment in time we do not just stand as nations, alliances or empires but
as citizens of a global village. We all share a dream to create and sustain prosperity for
generations to come. United by our common resources, we need a shared vision.
Iceland has a longstanding democratic and entrepreneurial heritage, with a parliament
dating back to 930. It has no military and a highly educated population of just 300
thousand. After its recent rise and fall, Iceland offers a unique opportunity in history as the
laboratory for prototyping the development of a sustainable model society in all areas,
including democracy, economy, currency and energy.
The time for action is now, while Iceland's infrastructure and financial system are being
rebooted. We invite you to take part in this exciting venture.
