Capitalism is an economic system defined by private ownership of production and control, with the goal of generating profits. It is based on market forces of supply and demand and competition. Capitalists invest money to produce goods and services to sell at a higher price than the costs of production, accumulating capital through profits. The aim of capitalists is to maximize profits without limit. Consumption capitalism produces goods and services for individual consumption that are constantly replaced to drive new consumption.
