vehicle and fully acknowledge the importance of what the DB
lineage means. This is a true and pure Aston Martin GT car is every
aspect of that definition. It is more than gorgeous.
Second Century
The Aston Martin marque has been identified with signified traits
over the past 100 plus years – craftsmanship, a rich racing heritage
and creating automotive sculpture. The brand is renowned for
using authentic materials. The end result is Power, Beauty and
Soul. The DB11 is the backbone of the Second Century of Aston
Martin cars, and has been designed with these revered values in
mind.
What does the DB represent?
First and foremost, the Aston Martin DB is a handcrafted V12 sports
GT. The DB11 has to take the path following legendary DBs before
it, yet bring all of this history together and become the next step
of the Aston Martin future. With an all new body, chassis & engine,
cutting edge technology & aerodynamics and the largest selection
of personalization and craftsmanship this is a DB in the purest of
Aston Martin sense. The DB11 is an ambassador for the brand, and
must initiate this brand into the Second Century. The DB11 is the
fastest, most powerful, most efficient and most dynamically gifted
DB car in history. Not to mention, gorgeous.
Oh, it’s so ready.
Its
ASTON MARTIN’s ‘Second Century’ Plan is underway,
& it is quite fitting that the iconic DB leads the charge.
Over the past many months, I have talked and typed
incessantly about the upcoming Aston Martin DB11.
That all said, while I have had time with the vehicle, the real test
was to experience and learn the car. Which, I was allowed the
honor to do a week ago with Aston Martin. Here is a summary of
what was learned from the factory as well as hands on time with
this all new Aston Martin.
As I mentioned July, the DB11 is simply the most gorgeous GT car I
have ever laid eyes on. That opinion has grown further with my
first hand experiences with the people who have created this

Exhaust Tricks
DB11 has an all new electrically controlled bypass system in the
stainless streel exhaust. This allows a unique new optional; quiet
start. A quick push of the ignition button and the DB11 roars into
life. But if you wish a subtle, demure start (perhaps as to facilitate a
fast silent escape) you hold the ignition until it fires. More about the
sound later…
Electrical
The DB11 initiates many advances in electrical architecture due to a
new partnership with Daimler. Some of the coolest features in the
DB 11 include:
 Keyless Entry/ Keyless Go
 360 degree camera
 12” driver screen / 8”infortainment screens
 Up & Away steering column
 Sat Nav linked Climate Control
 Full LED Lighting
 Wiper Ventilation designed to eliminate washer smell
 Electric Park Brake
Drivetrain
It is balanced!
The DB11 utilizes the industry leading Bilstein
Shocks and ZF transmission to create a world-class
control and dampening system.
The DB11 also utilizes the familiar Aston Martin
transaxle layout that allows the bulk of the weight
to sit between the wheels. This allows near perfect
weight distribution and road hugging handling.
You have control over the dampeners AND the
engine note and power independently on DB11. If
you wish the Sport Plus noise and GT ride… it’s one
of the many available combinations.

Aerodynamics
A car that addresses the full impact of aerodynamics brilliantly! DB11
has a revolutionary system that achieves control over the trifecta of
aerodynamics. Downforce, Drag and Lift allow the DB11 to slice
through and control the airflow. In addition, noise is reduced. The
Aston Martin Aeroblade is a production car first - managing flow
through the intakes at the rear of the side windows and channeling
air through rear boot lid and thus creating down force to the rear of
the car – almost as an invisible spoiler. A slight active spoiler will
deploy at various speeds as additional aerodynamic assistance is
needed. This design allows the clean pure line of the DB1 to flow as
well.
Craftsmanship
The DB11 initiates a unprecedented degree of craftsmanship and
personalization. From the jewelry quality hand enameled badge to
the three different levels of leather grades. No prior Aston Martin
offers so many selections. In the later part of 2017, the Q
programme is expected to begin on DB11 as well.

SO what exactly powers the new DB11?
Beneath the largest aluminum bonnet pressing in the
world (Which is soft close, by the way) is a true Aston
Martin 5.2 litre twin-turbo masterpiece. Not an AMG.
Not only is the new DB11 powertrain in the most efficient
to-date, but it also produces 600hp with unbelievably
consistent 516 foot pounds of torque. How does that
translate? The torque is steady and delivers seamlessly –
this DB wants to go and does so without lagging or
hesitation.
Mated with a new ZF 8 speed transmission and specifically
engineered transaxle, the DB11 continues the near perfect
weight distribution that the Aston Martin is renowned for.
Handling is precise. It feels right.

SO… How does the DB11 DRIVE?????
My impression of the DB11 on the open road is one that I
will not soon forget. The car is simply gorgeous, but, the
true test is how it would drive.
I have a fantastic career where I can drive some amazing
vehicles, and in my opinion, any car of this class can feel
intimidating at first. Now match that with the tight
country roads and RHD of midland Britain, the comfort
zone is shall we say, potentially reduced.
Who am I kidding? This car was like a lost friend, a
comfortable blanket and the best toy you got – ever -
rolled into one. Fantastic, simply FANTASTIC!
The car feels right. This is without a doubt every
centimeter all pure Aston Martin. It is a GT driver’s car
and it delivers not just performance and style but a new
familiarity. The DB11 is a VERY easy car to maneuver to the
point it feels almost intuitive. The handling and comfort is
superb. Power delivery is instant. If you had no idea this
was a turbo fed beast, you would be none the wiser. Even
from the cabin, after several hours in the car, it felt
comfortable to get out of.
Now, the HUGE factor, for me at least, how does the DB11
sound? There is the subtle GT mode, Sport mode and the
Sport Plus mode. I really didn’t drive the DB11 in GT subtle,
dear reader. Sport is really nice – it all sounds fantastically
Aston Martin.
Now let’s address ‘Sport Plus’ AKA “My absolute favorite
robust tingle-inducing rumbly sound mode”, which is like
a symphony of deep bellowing V12 sophistication. If there
is any doubt that a twin-turbo V12 Aston Martin does not
sound like true Aston Martin, your worries are unfounded.
It does and with even greater emphasis and urgency. This
car wants, no NEEDS to be on the road and just drive.
To those lucky folks who ordered these cars unseen and
will be taking delivery in the next few months all I can say
in this… Your patience and faith in Aston Martin is about
to be rewarded in a monumental way.
The new DB11 is the new
Aston Martin icon.
