This document contains 3 conference abstracts that studied the effects of physical exercise on levels of neurotrophic factors in male and female rats. The first abstract found that treadmill exercise increased levels of nerve growth factor (NGF) in both sexes. The second found that both chronic and acute exercise elevated hippocampal brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in male and female rats. The third abstract reported that exercise increased hippocampal BDNF protein levels in both sexes but that the increase was greater in male rats than females.
