This document provides an example calculation for determining seismic loads on a 4-story office building using the seismic coefficient method. The building is located in seismic zone V and has isolated footings on type II soil. It first calculates the design horizontal seismic coefficient and base shear. It then calculates the distribution of base shear and bending moments at each story level. The first three stories have a story weight of 4200 kN and the roof has 3000 kN. The calculated base shear is 1005 kN and bending moments range from 0 kN-m at the roof to 6893 kN-m at the first story.
