ICT has opened up a world of opportunity; however we must all ensure that whilst the children and young people in our care enjoy the benefits they are also prepared for the risks. This document summarizes the results of a survey about children's digital books from the perspective of users in Italy. Over 1,000 people responded to the survey, most of whom were female parents around 39 years old. Approximately 30% of respondents reported having used digital books for children. Tablets were the most popular device for reading digital books. Respondents saw benefits like interactivity and illustrations but had concerns about overuse of devices and losing the "magic" of physical books. Apps were the most commonly used format. Quality Italian-language content and reasonable prices were seen as factors that could increase digital book purchases.

Dr. Norman Lewis says that kids today look at technology as a means for self expression. So his key point is that kids are drawn to technology not because of the coolness of tech or innovation, but more as a means of interaction.
Heather Peretz presented on helping children think critically about media. She discussed how the average child uses social media by age 8 and outlined guidelines for limiting screen time to less than 2 hours per day for children. Peretz emphasized the importance of having discussions with children about privacy and their digital footprint, and setting up appropriate privacy settings on devices and social media to help children create a positive digital presence.
