Aluminum technology

 Secat and UK maintain a strong, collaborative
working relationship – a benefit to both entities and
the industry. Secat and CAT are both housed in the
sa e buildi g o UK’s Coldstream Research campus
in Lexington, KY and they share common goals that
support the growing aluminum industry.
 Secat scientists and engineers focus on issues and
technology for the Aluminum industry. Our expertise
includes microstructural analysis, mechanical and
structural testing, process technology and efficiency,
energy assessment, and new product research and
development.
Alloy development

 A major sheet metal producer needed to determine
how the heat treatment process should be modified
based on the alloy being processed. An evaluation of
tensile material properties at various temperatures
for different materials enabled Secat to determine
optimum heat treatment profiles for specified
aluminum alloys.
 Sheet manufacturing process development and
improvement
 Microstructural evaluation and material testing of
sheet products, including texture, fatigue, etc.
Plate, Sheet & Foil Technology
• Sheet product selection and development for specific
applications: Can and Can Lids
• Common Alloys
• Aerospace Applications
• Automotive Applications
• Foils for Packaging and Capacitor Applications
• Sheet manufacturing process development and improvement
• Microstructural evaluation and material testing of sheet
products, including texture, fatigue, etc.
• Formability evaluation and forming process modeling,
including forming limit diagrams
Materials Testing & Failure Analysis

Microstructural evaluation, including optical, SEM, TEM, etc.
Material testing and evaluation
Failure analysis
Metal quality assessment
Formability evaluation and forming process modeling,
including forming limit diagrams
• Secat's evaluation of the inclusions - using advanced
Metallographic techniques - indicated that the inclusions were
related to melt practices. Possible remedial actions were
discussed with the customer.
