Flag football has a smaller field than tackle football, between 60 to 80 yards. Players wear belts with flags that can be pulled by opposing players instead of tackling. A touchdown is worth 6 points, and teams can choose to run or pass for 1, 2, or 3 extra points from different distances after a touchdown. A defensive player can also return a fumble or interception for 3 points. A safety occurs when an offensive player is tackled in their own end zone and is worth 2 points for the defense.

Amburgh enjoys an active lifestyle. Among Patrick Van
Amburgh’s favorite recreational activities is flag football,
which while similar to tackle football has some
significant differences.
At 60 to 80 yards, a typical flag football field is smaller
than the field of play in conventional football. Tackling is
prohibited, and players wear belts with removable strips
of cloth attached. If an opposing player tears off the cloth
-- i.e., the flag -- of a ball carrier, the ball is dead. Play
consists of a series of four downs as in tackle football.

3. • A touchdown (six points) results when a player runs or
passes the ball into the opponent’s end zone. The scoring
team can try for points after the touchdown in one of
three ways: a successful run or pass from the three-yard
line (one point), the 10-yard line (two points), or the 20-
yard line (three points). If a defensive player gets the ball
during the attempt, he or she may try to advance it into
the opponent’s end zone. This defensive conversion is
worth three points.
The only other scoring possibility is a safety, which
occurs when an offensive player in possession of the ball
is tacked in his or her end zone. A safety results in two
points for the defensive team.
